changing insurance companies

My Peugeot 206 is currently insured with elephant.co.uk, having read the threads it seems the general consensus that perhaps they may not be the best company to insure my MCSC with (which is arriving in Sept). Problem is, my policy isn't up for renewal until December so now I'm a bit stuck. Is it possible to stop my insurance cover with elephant mid-policy and if so what happens to my NCB, I think I've got about 4 or 5 years and would rather not lose a year of it if possible. Alternatively should I take out shortfall/gap insurance and wait until december to change insurance providers??????

I'm gettinga cooper in dept. and my insurance runs out in december too - currently with the AA but got a much better quote from another company. You can cancel your insurance policy anytime - you'll get a refund on the remaining months - they will probably deduct an admin fee as well. I don't think you'll lose any NCB - the new insurer will quote you on what you have now - so if it is 4 years and this will be your 5th year, they should quote for 4 years and you will get the 5 years next time (at least, that's what happened to me last time I did this). Best thing is to shop around and see what the best deal is. Watch out for excesses - the AA quoted me around £390 and the excess was £275. Frizzels quoted me about £380 with a £150 excess! Much better deal :-)

GAP insurance is a different thing - quite a few threads on it already so I won't repeat what has already been said - except advise you to shop around! I have had a quote for £179 for 3 years - dealer wanted £390! (See my thread on here)

Me too! Cooper in september and insurance up at end of year. Currently with renault insurace but fortunately they seem to be the cheapest for the mini too. Only have 2 years NCB and would like to get to 3 so that I don't lose everything if I have to make a claim.

You could always finish your year with elephant so you don't loose the no claims.

I suppose you've got to weigh up the value of saving money on a seperate policy or getting that extra year of NCB.

I think elephant are ok...it's just that they will charge you more than the online quote when you tell them about the extras most people have.... I've had a claim with admiral of which elephant are a sister company and they were fine...if a bit slow... but they paid out no problem.

I thought some people have said that even though they stated the extra's on their cars, elephant only replace damages with the standard parts.

Very helpful thread. I too am going to cancel my current policy (not up for renewal for ages) - can someone confirm that it'll be a case of "Hi, I'd like to cancel my policy, cheers, bye now" or are they going to kick up a fuss as I've not been with them for 12 months?

Cheers

Will

I cancelled my Tesco insurance which I was paying monthly. All that I had to do was send back my certificate and pay an extra £6.

I'm already at 9 years no claims so won't accrue any more now - therefore it didn't matter cancelling half way through the year.
