Sainsburys Car Insurance - Any Good?

Just at that horrible time of the year when the insurance is up for renewal. Renewal from MINI Cover is £1300 (MCS, Liverpool, me 29, wife 23, 4 years NCB). Tried Adrian Flux who came in at just under £1K.

Saw the Little Bill Sainsburys ad, and because there's a Mini convertible in it thought it might be worth a quote. £815 Slightly shocked at the difference, so, being Scottish, I'm wondering where the catch is.

Anyone out there insured through Sainsbury? Are they any good? Cover better than that through MINI or flux? Anything I should look out for?

If you look on the Sainsburys site you'll see the following:

"Sainsbury's Bank car insurance products

Sainsbury's Bank car insurance is arranged and administered by esure Services Limited as intermediary between you and the insurer. Your policy will be underwritten by either esure Insurance Limited, Company Number 3885534, or First Alternative Insurance Company Limited, Company Number 4664005, whose registered offices are: The Observatory, Reigate, Surrey RH2 0SG. All companies are part of the Halifax and Bank of Scotland group. Not available in Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands or to drivers aged over 78 and subject to normal underwriting criteria.

Motoring legal protection is underwritten by either esure Insurance Limited or First Alternative Insurance Company Limited. Your insurer is named in your policy documents.

Green Flag breakdown assistance cover is underwritten by UK Insurance Limited. You may choose from one of three different levels of breakdown assistance cover to add to your car insurance policy as required. For more details please see the policy."

So they're OK then!

There is just one moon and one golden sun; And a smile mean friendship to ev'ryone; Through the mountains divide, and the oceans are wide; It's a small world after all.

Ta for that I can never really be ar5ed reading all that stuff and have, rather lazily, come to trust the views of MINI2ers instead

Anyone know what Sainburys are like for modifying? I am thinking about the GTT 220 conversion later this year so it would useful to know that I could insure it without having to remortgage the house. (Adrian Flux quote for the GTT is 50% higher than standard).

Just phoned Sainsbury's to check about modifying. They said "nope, we wouldn't cover, or indeed quote, for any engine mods."

So that'll be that then

I'd also make a point of asking if your optional extras (Chili Pack, Alloys etc) are covered, even if they are factory-fitted as many insurers will only cover a 'standard' car....

i remember, when i was checkin insurance prices for the Mini One D with Churchills.co.uk
it gave you the option of the standard, salt pack or pepper pack

So they do insure you above the standard car, unlike what has been said sainsburys doesnt

I was reading some other posts earlier about insurers only covering the standard car. I'm currently with MINI insurance and the packs are listed as options when completing the online forms. Well worth remembering to mention it when talking to other providers.

Actually Sainsbury's do cover you for (factory fitted) options so long as you state them - this is confirmed in other threads in here. What has been said here is that other modifications such as engine changes are not covered - you're better off going for specialist insurance if you have these kinds of things.
