Any aussies looked into insurance yet?

just outa curiosity i went on the nrma website the other day to check if the cooper S was there and sure enough it was.. but what suprised me is how cheap the rates were on comprehensive insurance.. i hope this isnt a mistake in thier online system.. i havent rang about it yet as the cars a few months off
but by comaprison im 25 (well will b in a coupla months )good record and living in a low crime area etc and the premium suprised me at being $1300 and i checked for a laugh how much it would b to insure a wrx and it was over 3 grand
what makes this even more bizare is my last car was only worth half of this one and cost me just a little less than the quote on the S to insure, im young so im used 2 being ripped off on insurance, but this seems just a little 2 good 2 b true from my stand point

im still sure this must be a mistake

I am already insured with AAMI and got a quote for $750 approx for my 'S'. But I'm on rating 1 for life, and well over 25, and live in a low crime suburb.

I have received two quotes so far:

BMW - $1100
RACV - $600

OK so I'm a bit over 25 (40!!!!)and live in a low crime rate area and hold a rating 1.

Think I'll stick with RACV.

Andy

It's here (8/11/02) - Cooper S - Black/white, 16" Alloy x-lite - Having heaps of fun

Ditto, except the best quote was through BMW themselves. Good policy, and restricted to drivers of 39 or more. Which just so happens to suit me just fine.

The best thing about the BMW policy is that it goes to a BMW approved repair shop should the worst happen.

I think your right. $1300 for cooper S and $3000 for a WRX is simply not right. Your in WRX territory insurance wise for a Cooper S. In queensland at least, and at the time of writing. This may change when underwriters here get a better handle on things.

Careful with the Insurance thing expecially if you want your choice of repairer - from past dealings BMW insurance and finance for that matter are really good people to deal with, AAMI aren't, as the car just gets taken to the cheapest repairer on the day - not good.

AAMI's response to myself "well what do you expect you only took the policy out with us because we were cheap.

You make your own decision.

I am 27 and RACV quoted me $1088.11!!! I live in a low crime area as well. Just because you are 40 doesn't mean you hoon less than me!!! Will find out when we eventually go on a drive day.

Im 23 and rating 1, called RACV a month or so ago, and they wont insure me because the car is "supercharged" and I am under 25. Strange that, I can insure a car with a greater power to weight ratio, but a supercharger on a lower P/W car is a big NO???

Anyway, spoke to BMW, and quoted me $1900 for agreed value of $54,000. A little steep but I dont think Ill do any better!

I'm 32, and BMW quoted $625. I don't think I'm even going to bother shopping around at that price for quality insurance.

Clubman less....

Try Shannons insurance. As long as you are a member of a car club they will insure you.

I am 24 good record and got a quote from shannons of about $ 1300. Not bad considering I havent got to the all important 25 mark.

We have a full tank of gas, half a pack
of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sun glasses. Hit it!

I finally got a quote from BMW insurance. They want $1100 on rating 1 (I'm 27). Looking at some of your prices above, it seems a bit stiff. Wonder why? I live in a low crime area too. Maybe I should try AAMI or RACV again??? My TT Roadster was $1870, so I guess this is still a lot cheaper. BTW, my bloody car looks like it's taking it's own sweet time. Can anyone confirm if a boat load of MCS has arrived in Australia on 24th June? Maybe it hasn't even docked in Australia yet!!!

I got another insurance quote last week with RACQ. They quoted aus$589.40, or aus$565.80 ($350 excess) when combined with our other car. Shannons, when combined with the Elan were aus$1184 ouch!

Clubman less....

No idea what ship my car is in. But it was originally scheduled to arrive on 24th, but cannot confirm if it actually did. If it did, then the bloody customs and compliance is taking forever!!!

Way do you know your VIN then you can use the WW site to find out were your car is? If the ship was due in on the 24 I say that was it, as the few i have tracked from the UK can be a few days late.

Yes insurance is good value you up here. What was odd was the RACQ quote for the S was only $100 more than a cooper for me.

Hmmm, have to try my broker again, though I'm keen on the BMW insurance policy.

I don't know what I've done of late, but the insurance complanies sure love me at the moment. I think I'll still go for the BMW insurance deal, so that I get access to the BMW approved repairers.
