Has this happened to anyone (leasing)

so last night I went in to place the order for my new mini... everything went smooth, until we got to the lease price. The number the dealer came back with was over $100 a month more! I asked why and all I got was that there are various taxes in pennsylvania and there's a money factor to worry about. I told them no thanks and walked out... but it felt like just a line of crap. They told me "the lease online isn't close because BMW credit can't factor in the local taxes and everything". I can't imagine there isn't an accurate database with that stuff... why else do you put the zip code in when estimating?

one thing's for sure... I won't be going back to that dealer. I live in a metro area, but it's 35-40 miles to get to any of the 3 close dealerships. I don't want to give up on getting my mini, but an extra $100 figures into $5000 over 4 years for a car I won't even own in the end. Any suggestions?

That works out to a lot of taxes. The "Everything" must be the additional profit that they want.

The most likely thing is that they were not using the BMW lease. On the only leased vehicle I ever had, it came out much higher that predicted on the manufacturers web site, and they dealer said "oh, you want the national lease".

When he switched from the Southern Virginia Fruit Pickers bank lease to the GM lease it dropped $200 a month. I will still not lease another one, I could not get used to the feeling that I was driving a rental car.

Good luck, and don't give up. Dealers are just like the knock down inflatable toys, when you walk back in they will love you just as much as they did the other day.

I agree... I figure they were padding it with unnecessary extras like life insurance and dealer charges. That dealer is in a very expensive section of the city and I think they are used to people just paying what they put in front of them. maybe if I wasn't saving for a house I'd have caved... but not this year. I'm going to be going to another dealer that's out in the 'country' a bit more and see what kind of numbers they give me. I wasn't sure about the sunroof so I may drop a few options to meet my price limit...

as a matter of fact, after looking at the other cars that are out there for the same money I may just get a regular cooper with all the options I want and be done with it. I could afford that even with $100 tacked on top of the price listed on the website.

I'll keep everyone updated after I spend some time at that dealer next week. on the upside, the test drive out there should be a LOT more fun than driving around the city!
