Just checking in at 122,000 + as of July 4th. Gonna go back to different plugs, as the factory ones they put in at the last service do not let the engine as smoothly until higher in the rev range, and I'm convinced that uneven power pulses aren't good for the computer control of the CVT - it needs to run as smooth as possible. Hope all others are well, and happy motoring!

Have My Mini Back!

Hello All,

Been a while since I posted here. After 3 months of trying to work it out I have my car back. BMW/Mini Canada bent me over and did me dry (extremely vulgar but the most accurate description of the situation. I had a friend at a Subaru Dealer order me the parts through him so I got wholesale on a new one and grabbed a new tranny cooler as well. The bill was painful.... More details to come as the saga is unfinished.

Good Luck all

2002 MINI ONE, 64000Kms ( 40 someting miles) .All going strong....
Remanufactured CVT available here in NZ for 3500 NZ dollars.
The only thing I noticed is a slight hesitance at take off ( at traffic lights .stop and go traffic etc)
Will get the car rechipped tomorrow as my Mini is a ONE model , which is a detuned version of the normal COOPER. ( 90 bhp instead 115) . With remapping I will end up with 123bhp.

Otherwise : I LOVE IT.
Really glad that I sold my 300SL .

Sejanus,

Add my 2006 MC CVT to your list of happy drivers! I just bought it this last July with 25,000 miles on it, now it has over 28,000 miles.

Add my 2003 MC CVT to your list of drivers. 63,000+ miles on the car so far and still going. But reading this post makes me nervous.

Had my car in the shop today for some maintenance, and to also check the cvt out. It rumbles a bit when I put it into gear (the rpms drop a bit, then back up when I begin to move.) Service stated thats normal for it to do that since it's getting older. Just thought I'd mention that to see if others had their Mini cvts do that.

For those whose MINI cvts had failed, how was the car acting months prior before it failed?

84,000 miles; still huge fun.

I'll add that my son and I got into an evaluation of cruise control and technique differences for fuel mileage improvement this summer. We had chances to drive other people's cars and rental units too. The MINI Cooper CVT may still have the best system; it is SMOOTH. It works.

Thumbs up All A-OK after 6 1/2 years; check that CVT fluid!

Hello again all you fellow CVT owners! It's been a long time since I posted on the CVT threads.
Max is now over 6 years old. His CVT is running very well. But he only has 25,000 miles under his bonnet, and he complains about lack of enough exercise. I no longer commute to work--that's why.
He had his 25,000 service just last month. I specifically asked for the CVT fluid to be changed. When I examined the hard-to-understand bill carefully, there was no mention of it being done, so I checked, and indeed they had forgotten it. If I had not caught this error, Max would have gone 50,000 miles before getting the CVT fluid changed, which I am sure is not a good idea.
This was just a human error at a normally good dealer. But I urged them to institute a procedure to be sure not to leave things out of servicings--it could be disastrous for someone someday.

Thanks for checking in. That's pretty bad about the dealer. It makes you realize how much we need to double check things. I can't believe our MINIs are about the same age (mines and August '02 as well) and yet have such a huge mileage difference.
