Mini Cooper CVT?

Hey,

I am looking for a new car. I was wondering if Mini Cooper with CVT transmission is good. Anybody driven it? Is it quick and fun to drive? This would be my daily driver, so I would need something that's reliable, quick, fun, good fuel efficiency, etc. And I love styling of mini. Just out of curiousity, what do ya think 0-60 and 1/4 mile for CVT mini is? Considering it has 115 HP and 110 ft.lbs. it wouldn't be quick I guess.

Thanks for any help!

Hello, welcome to MINI2.

This is discussed quite a lot on the forums already, so probably the best thing to do is search the Cooper and Performance and Tuning forums for CVT and see what you can come up with, and then post any lingering questions or doubts in a current, active discussion.

Good luck with your decision!

Given the number of questions and issues that get raised about it maybe we should have CVT forum Paul?

Bad Idea. It would only encourage these people

The CVT is just one simple option (that clearly contains lots of uhh, feelings one way or another) If there was a separate forum, it'd be like having a separate forum for cars with sunroofs, or cars with sport packages.

Anyway, Haris, your best option is to go test drive the car. Fast is dependant on your personal taste some people want 0-60 times of under 4 seconds and are willing to spend $80K to get it, handling is your personal taste, etc. The 5 speed cooper is a bit faster then a CVT, but the specifications give you exact details on that (available at the top of the page under technical) .

Perhaps, but then what is the difference between a Cooper and a One? A computer chip as I recall. It's no big deal either way, but there are a lot questions and issues about the CVT that come up and it might be handy to have them in one place especially for folks like Haris who are just looking into it.

A One has different option packages (such as no Rev counter standard) different wheels, no contrasting roof, different grill and many options not even available. I think it can also have a softer suspension if you want..

That's a big difference from just the different ECU.

Having stuff in one place isn't necessarily good anyway, there's always tons of general interest in the various model forums, like oil discussions, the more segmented something is, it can prevent info, since a newbie will say oh, I'm not interested in a 5 speed ignore that forum, and only look at the CVT one.

Considering you can search for CVT and get almost all threads related even remotely to it, I don't think its worth the extra clutter. Of course its not my decision, so its not like my opinion is the only one that matters.

All reasonable points, it's just that I've noticed a number of posts lately from newer members who apparently have not found any of the rather extensive existing CVT threads.

I agree, so maybe we need a forum dedicated to newbies, on how to use the search? that's just a whole different problem...

What about starting a thread to capture the best of the existing threads for new CVT owners? It might simply contain a list of URLs to start, and a request to bring in the most useful information as quotes.

I started it as "CVT Information for New Owners"

Why not just a general CVT FAQ? (with links perhaps)

People seem more inclined to read conscise information when they're starting out then sift through 15 threads...

It looks like we have most of the Forum's attention that could reasonably expected, except the FAQ idea. The dedicated Forum is a proper next step.

What items belong in the FAQ?

Now that most of the serious software concerns have been reduced (but not eliminated), what are the Frequently Asked Questions by those new to the car?
