I've not firkled with the sparks/cables, but I have fitted a K&N 57i induction kit, to go with the PlayMINI exhaust. Thread on it here:

The induction kit (rather than injection) is easy to fit. I''m paralysed in one arm, so if I can fit it one-handed, I'm sure anyone with two hands can

Getting the airbox out is a tad tricky, as space is tight; just take your time.

The K&N kit is p/n 57-0331; the PDF fitting guide (including pictures) is here:

I like the noise too

Kit cost me around £100. You can get just replacement filter elenments, for far less, but I wanted the full induction kit look.

Compare and contract the airbox on your MINI vs. the induction kit fitted. Pic here:

EDIT: There is a bug in the vBulletin script running MINI2, so that the letters 'K' and 'N' together are treated as bad, and they get changed to two asterisks. You'll need to copy the URL and change the first start to a 'K' and the second one to a 'N'. Alternatively, go here:

Can anyone tell me whats the difference between a K&N57i and K&N Typhoon Kit?

would installation of the Typhoon kit be harder then the 57i Kit?

Instead of "CVT Issues", this one is proceeding as "CVT Induction/Exhaust ideas" or some such title. Let me know if it should be adjusted.

Your subject is especially interesting because of the other CVT-specific investigations we have underway into the gearbox specifications. What can be done to this car? What happens when you do it? And, what do you LIKE about those mods for the CVT?

Keep it rolling if you can.

I put in a BMP intake (www.promini.com or www.peabodyminisports.com) a couple weeks ago, around $250 installed by my dealer. I love it and I am thinking of putting in a performance exhaust too at the start of the year.

Sounds like the induction Kit is a Must for the CVT
but i'm also thinking of spark plugs still ... coz i heard it smooths the drive changing to a 0.044 setting(defualt) to a 0.032

any suggestions?

Made? What cone are you going to have on it? If you really want to go that route, you can remove the airbox to see how much room you've got to play with - the K&N *just* fits in the gap. Oh, and the clips around the induction hoses appear to be single use only - get some hose clips
