Clock and rear washer problems

The clock in my 2005 Cooper gains approx. 4 mins/month. Each month I reset the time and by the end of the month its 4 mins. fast. Anyone have this problem? Also, the rear window washer leaks fluid from under the rubber grommet in the glass. I noticed this while the car was not even running and the washer was not in use. I always notice water spots on the car under the rear wiper that have obviously trickled down from the grommet. Recently, on a hot sunny day the car was outside and when I approached the car I actually saw washer fluid gushing out from under the grommet in the rear window. The dealer has never heard of the problem but I have noticed the same water spots on cars on their lot and in their showroom. Anyone know what the deal is?

Hi zell and welcome to mini2.

The clock on my 05 MCS has been doing the same thing. I was going to post the question as well but you beat me to it, so lets hope someone else has an answer to our problem.

As for your problem with the water leak, you must go back to your dealer and press them to sort it out. Not having heard of this happening before isn't good enough. The dealer is supposed to be there to help you with such a problem so make sure they do.

Hope you get it sorted out.

I have the same problem for both. My clock gains time. Had to change the time on it just last week...second time since I've had it.
I also always see spots on my back window from the wiper fluid. Before I ran out of the fluid, (my dealer obviously didn't fill it full because it ran out after using it once) it would leave a nasty residue. There is a pic of a pw mini with this same problem and left a nasty orangey-brown stain above the mini badge. I put blue'ish wiper fluid in mine and still leaks out. It's definetly a pain in the boot. Just noticed yesterday when I opened the boot to put my schoolbooks in it, the liquid leaked out when the boot was open and now has stain in middle of window. Definetly not cool.

Hi zell,

My 05 Cooper has the same "clock problem". Once adjusted and set, it's soon quite a few minutes ahead!
Does anyone has a clue, is it a common fault and is it worth going back to dealer?

I also have a dirty yellow stain between rear washer and Mini logo. But never saw water leaking.

Grtz.

Hi

My clock does this too! Its gained about 15 mins in 3/4 months. You would think that something so simple would just work really!

My clock is fine but next time you wash the MINI, run the washers for quite some time (I lifted the blades off the glass) and then refill the washer bottle with plain water to reduce the concentration. This problem seems fairly common but the flushing cured mine. The leakage occurred first in warm weather. Now I have no problems with it.

We just got our 06' Pepper White Cooper this past weekend....

Looks like I'll be draining both Front & Rear Washers Jets of all Fuid so that we don't get any nasty yellow stains on our paint, in the weeks to come..

This is at least the 4th or 5th time I have heard of this issue... I don't want to wait till it's too late to see if "it happens"

I'll let you know on the clock issue in about 2-3 weeks..

Joe Z

I have a 06 MC and the clock has gained about 3 minutes in the two weeks that I have had the car. No problems with rear windshield washer. Love the car!!!

My clock gains 2mins per week. I'm not pleased and I have, today, asked MiniUK to give me the design accuracy tolerance for the clock. 2mins per week, what kind of technology is that?

My car LOSES 1/2 minute a month. If I don't start my car, it actually gains. But starting the car momentarily stops the clock. It's probably the current drain of the starter. My car gets started probably 3 to 5 times a day 7 days a week....I drive a lot, I guess.

My 05 Cooper does exactly the same with the clock, always 5 mins fast at least once a month, I thought it was just me!!!!!!

Reassuring though that others do have same problem. I had thought of calling dealer about it but dont want to do a 80 round mile journey for only the clock.

However if any of you find out a solution then please please post it here or if anyone has been to dealer then let us know how it goes!!!

Mary

Yep, another oner with the clock problem on my 05 Cooper - I actually dont even bother having it displayed anymore as it annoys me so much (and I still think its a real pain to set it)!

A question for you with the problem- do you all have the standard Mini fitted radios or third party ones? - I have a Sony (recommended and fitted by the dealer) CD in place of the standard Mini one - the Sony unit keeps perfect time but I wonder if it is something to do with the car not picking up the RDS (??) time from the radio. A friend of mine also has an 05 Cooper and he is not having this issue on his 'standard' Mini unit.

Just a thought

Clock Issues as Well

My clock is also exhibiting the run fast problem. Just reset it this morning. Only had the car 3 weeks and the clock was about 8 minutes fast.

Anyone have any ideas yet? I have the HK stereo with factory iPod adapter.

United-Kingdom Standard head unit

My car has the standard BOOST head unit fitted. Don't bother with the clock now as I just keep getting to work earlier and earlier!!
