hatch rattles

my hatchback door seems to rattle. i can actually go back and press on the hatch, and, it has a bit of free play and isn't totally held securely by the lock.

does anyone else have a MINI with a...er.. loose boot problem? =)

Hatch rattle

I have the same problem and wrote about it in another thread but here is a quick fix. On the hatch is the U-shaped piece that the latch catches to hold it closed. It is silver. Wrap it with a little electricians tape or even masking tape. Thats it, it was gone. The rattle/clunking noise was driving me crazy. The hatch will have a little play when closed, make sure the little bumpers that are on each side of the hatch are not extended too far. They screw in or out by twisting. I haven't asked the dealer here (Concord, CA) if they have a fix yet, when it goes in for service I will see if they know anything about adjusting the latch. It seems to be a problem.
