Very Annoyed - Door Seals! - Had Probs Yourself?

I recently took my 02 cooper back AGAIN

for yet another fault to be fixed

When I bought the car it had streaks up BOTH passenger and driver window and I thought it was polish and it would wash away eventually

I clean the car all the time! And it still appears! Anyways when My driver door got stuck in the UP position and I couldnt close the door properley I thought I would kill 2 birds with one stone and get them to check if there was problem with the streaks!

I got the car 05/05

Mini say my seals on the windows have gone! They told me it was chargeable, ****ed off I agreed to have it done and Im about to take it up with them in writing as I feel the seals on BOTH windows shouldnt need replacing after just 3 years! thats DISGUSTING!

they charged me just shy of £100 for the seals on both sides to be done! NOT IMPRESSED! and The reason I agreed was they said it would cost more if i brought it back later as the technicians had the door apart to fix the problem with the window anyway

Its one of lots of problems

NEW CLUTCH in 03
new seat rails
new strutts (veering to left)
one click needed programming again when it cocked up
Had same prob twice with passenger door not opening
none of my controls working except side lights until turning car off and back on again (still havnt found fault)
seats creaking again

Ive had the car only 5 mths!! Am I missing summat here? is this the faultiest car MAN could buy?

Im very close to putting it into the autotrader and buying an alternative car!

If you have had the probs with smears please let me know, a few friends from a diff mini club say they have and im wondering if its common so when I make a complaint I have a bit of info to back up my annoyance at having to pay!

Thanks in advance

Kelv

Is this a sort of greasy smear on the inside of your windows?

I get that all the time, didnt think of it as much of a problem.....

And after what ive just been through at my dealer (north oxford garage) i dont think i will be sending it in anytime soon.

It is annoying though! I clean my car and as soon as i put my windows down and up again the smears are there.

The streaks inside the drivers and passenger windows is a common problem..I have it in my Cooper (Feb 04 build), my mum has it in hers (Aug 04 MCS)..mate of mine has it in his 01 Cooper..seems its a common complaint..there is a threa on here somewhere all about it..some ppls have tried silcone spray etc to help the windows slide up smoother....I wouldn't worry to much about it, it doesn't bother me. hth

its easy to fix, just clean the seals and stop grease and muck from building up on them. Its not just a MINI issue, I've had this on many cars I have owned, its just a case of cleaning your car properly and learning to get on with enjoying it instead of being picky

If its just a case of cleaning it why did BMW replace the seals at a cost of £98?

This thread says it all really... Dont get me wrong Ive had smears on other cars but these were the worst smears ive had on any vehicle so much so I felt the need to complain

The car went it because the window was buggered, I asked them to have a look at the smears at the same time! They advised me the seals needed changing and best to have them done whilst the technician had my door apart otherwise it would cost more next time. Worst car Ive ever bought, looking into buying something else at the moment, Im sick of taking it back with faults (Not my little pickings)
