I purchased a Mini Cooper 02 about 5 weeks ago (not from a Mini dealer). It has 31,000 miles. I'm having two problems with it at the moment, I'm hoping someone can help!! The first is a noisy fan belt which I've already had replaced and the second is an oil leak which seems to be coming from the drive shaft. I'm a little concerned as I only have the car a few weeks. Has anyone else had these problems? Thanks.
It sounds like it's slipping but it has been replaced. It's not really a clicking sound, more of a squeel.
When I looked under the car, It didn't seem to be coming out of the giator. It was coming out of the drive shaft near the center of the car. I didn't see a giator there.
Check the belt is tight. If it is then u have an issue which could possibly be the alternator being very tight. Does it squeel constantly?? does it only do it when you accelerate or rev the car?? What if you put the rear demister on and all your lights?? does it get worse?? The idea behind that is the more load put on the battery to power the lights and heater will put more load on the alternator and belt.
I'd certainly get the car booked in for any oil leak related to the gearbox as excessive loss of oil will cause excessive wear.
Thanks for the advice. The noise does get louder when I turn everything on. It seems to be worse when the engine is cold and goes away after a few mins. I left the car in yesterday, hopefully the mechanic will sort it out.
