I think I may have discovered another way to create this situation. With the passenger window already fully up, I toggled the switch in the up direction wanting to make sure that the window was fully raised. I then turned the ignition off. When the passenger door was opened, the window didn't retract. Reinserting the key, lowering the window slightly then closing it completely "fixed" the problem. I tried to make this happen on the driver side, but it did not prove to be repeatable. Does make a case for auto up IMHO....

Not too concerned at this point. I'll mention to my dealer soon.

Window retraction

I found that if the door is open and the key is on and you press and hold the toggle switch the window goes clear up and then retracts. If the toggle is pressed quickly again the window goes up and stops. I discovered this when I had the windows tinted. This was required so they could get to the very bottom of window with the film. It appears when the toggle is held the window goes up until the computer senses that the window should be completely close then backs it off a bit after a bit of a delay. If the toggle is just tapped when the window has just been retraced the 5 mm it goes up and does not have time to sense it has reached the top and thus it does not retract. I wonder if this is related to what everyone is seeing.

Passenger door troubles

Please read my cure for the drivers door, (Window caught on drip rail)and carry out the same procedure. The windows sometimes need re-set,don't know why.

Window retraction

I have experimented with the window operation since my post above. I believe what most people are experiencing is a failure of the window to retract when the door is opened. The sequence of event to cause this are.

1. The window is raised completely.
2. The toggle to pressed momentarily to insure the window is completely rolled up. (When you are typically getting ready to exit the car) If the toggle is not pressed for 2 or 3 seconds even when the window is completely closed the computer "forgets" the window is completely closed.
3. The door is now opened and the window does not retract.
4. The door is closed and the window hits.

You can verify this yourself. Rollup the window holding the toggle for several seconds after the window closes. Now tap the toggle in the close direction. Now when the door is opened the window will not retract. Caution before closing the door press and hold the toggle in the up position for several seconds and the window will retract. This press/hold and tapping of the toggle can be done with the door open and the key on. This will demonstrate the same behavior. Just remember when closing the window to hold the toggle for a few seconds after the window closes. I hope this helps.

Smile Thanks......

I thought my windows were just whacky until I found this thread. Everytime I have gotten ready to get out of the car I would hear them retract just a little, & didn't think this was normal so I put them all the way back up. Then when I would close the door there would be a crack between the front window & rear pillar. Thank goodness I didn't break the window......doh........

Right.....can I throw a spanner in the works?? I'm having the opposite, when my passenger door closes, it doesn't do the 5mm raise so wind gets in at speed. Is there a way to fix this??
