I had a similar problem, couldnt find what this knocking was, but it turned out to be one of those wood air freseners that where attached to one of the rear grab handles.

Hope you find the problem though.

I took all of my junk out of my car to make sure it wasnt causing any rattling,
The car still makes the noise, but it seems its coming from the front now. As soon as i put my the gas on it clunks, and then when i take it off it clunks again. But if i go over a bumpy roads i hear nothing.

I went upto my dealer and asked them could they get a mechanic to take alook and they said "as usual", they dont have a free mechanic, come back on friday and they "might" have a free mechanic . So i just booked it in for next Wednesday. He mentioned that the engine could be loose

may be one of the 2 rear box upper mounts, or just found out today that it could be the downpipe-to-cat flexible part of the exhaust. Apparently it gets excess play and the only way to sort it out is to change it.

I got somebody to drive forward and reverse in the car with the bonnet up and i could see alot of engine movement at the same time i hear the noise, the noise is defintely coming from the engine compartment, may there be a loose engine mount?? or is engine movement normal during accelerating and de-celerating???

Is most likely the engine mount. My car was doing this last month so booked it in for a check. When I picked it up they said they had to replace the engine mount under warranty. The noise has now gone away.

its confirmed, its the right Engine mount, there is a fair amont of leakage there. Also if i rock the engine , it makes that noise on the right hand side strut. The part is ordered, hopefully they'll replace it on wednesday

I have the exact same problem. I thought I had an oil leak from the engine but it transpires that it is the drivers side engine mount. I do now know what hydraulic fluid is in the mount but it is all over my engine compartment.

Should I be worried?

It is booked in for a warranty repair.

You shouldnt be too worried, just take it easy til you bring it in. I left mine in the garage in the morning and it was ready early afternoon and its going as good as ever now.

How many miles have you done??

I have been having this problem and have been going crazy listening to it! I have finally noticed (duh!! I must be BLIND!) a whole lot of fluid burnt to parts of the engine bay - so I took some photos -

See Pics here

My knocking noise is exactly the same as you described. If anyone is troubleshooting their car, and wants to compare symptoms, mine are:

- knocking noise, when in gear, upon accellerating or taking pressure off accellerator.
- does not always happen, but happens often
- happens in all gears, usually when releasing the clutch into the new gear.
- It is more prone to happen in lower gears
- sometime does it on start-up
- does not do it in neutral
- engine shakes a bit more than normal on start-up

I have not confirmed that it is in-fact, the engine mount, but oil would not burn on hard to the metal like that, and there are no other sources of fluid in that area of the car. The car is going in tomorrow afternoon to be fixed.

the pics are the same as mine, once they replace the engine mounts everything will be back to normal
