Clonking noise from rear..

I've had a "clonking" sound from the rear for several months now and can't figure out what it is - it's coming from the rear offside wheel and you can hear it more when sitting in the back..

The noise is definatly coming from outside the car, somewhere below the wheel arch and not in the interior and you hear it when going over even the smallest bumps in the road..

The dealer thought it was the seat belts until we made them come on a test drive with us and they decided it was some kind of a venting exhaust that comes out by the rear wheel.. So they took the wheel off and tied the venting cable up as it had come lose (apparently many do as they aren't tied properly in the factory).. The noise hasn't change at all and sounds as it did before

I've seen one other thread on this but that may of been down to the suspension bottoming out whereas this is not..

thanks for any help..

taking a wild guess here, but if it's a tinny clunking noise it could be a cracked spring, other wise check the exhaust mounts and brackets

thats all i can think of at the mo hope it was some use
