problem with head unit display in cold weather

hey everyone,

took delivery of my new mini cooper hb/b in january and have been loving every minute of it sense!

however the past couple of mornings/evenings i've come across a little 'niggle' with the radio head unit when temperatures drop below 0 degrees. in these temps the lcd appears corrupted with most of the symbols etc. lighting up. this does go away as the car warms up though!

any ideas?

thanks,
colin

Strange you should post this (welcome to MINI2 by the way). I've had several MINIs, and I've had my MINI through the winter, but the night befor last I had exactly this same issue, for the very first time! I was going to post to get some feedback too, so I'll just join you in asking, with a "me too!".

This is normal, lcd screens tend to do is in cold weather. I have the same thing with my spedo. The screen slows down when switching from avg fuel consumption to speed. My dad also has the same problem with the lcd screen of the on board computer of his mercedes.
It normally stops doing this when the car gets warmer.

It was just a surprise as I've been through colder times than the night it happened. Maybe I was just paying more attention to the head unit than usual. I could see it was temperature related as it went as the car warmed up.

I had the same problem, and when it eventually got sorted out (a radio tape arrived at the dealer at first and not a radio cd) the new radio had mp3 compatibility too. Awesome!

Mine did this again today, and it's not very cold at all, so I'm going to get it done under warranty. Never had it before on previous MINIs, in much colder weather.

Paul,

Just got mine replaced today under warranty so reckon that's the way to go alright. Took it in last week knowing that I wouldn't be able to show them the problem, (because the weather hasn't been particularly cold lately) but they said then get me a new one nonetheless

whilst i was there i also ended up ordering bonnet stripes, although it was too wet to put them on so looking forward to seeing how they look - if we ever get a dry day that is!!!

to change the subject i also bought some touch up paint today 'cos i noticed a little paint chip on the bonnet - par for the course i suppose!

Colin

I've had a similar issue occassionally, when it's really cold there are a few dead pixels in the screen.
