Angry holes in soft top

I have anew mini convertible and after a single summer I noticed holes wearing away along the driver side edge of the soft top (along the sewn in rain gutter). This wasn't occuring on the passenger side. After investigation it turns out that when the hood automatically folds down the driver side corner is folding inwards and causing the edge of the roof to rub against each fold. The vibrations of driving cause the rub which has worn 2 holes along the side. I am having no joy from BMW Australia and have even been told that it might be rats eating it !!!

I even pointed out to the service manager that a new convertible sitting on the show room floor was doing the same thing - and that the unlucky purchaser would be back in 6 months with the same problem - still no joy.

Has anyone had this problem???????

This is a very common problem, use the search function on this site and enter "roof wear" and you will get lots of threads; for instance:

There should be lots of detailed evidence for you to "discuss" with your dealer...

your dealer sounds like an ****. ask him to put it in writing and and tell him you will be talking to MINI diorectly about his service. It costs the dealers nothing to do warranty work after all. BMW pays the bill.
