tech service bulletins whistling a/c

noticed the tsb postings and looked to see if any of my problems were mentioned. tsb postings are here http://www.mini2.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26676 there were a couple. one was of particular interest to me. this was posted feb 1 2006 by bmw http://www.alldata.com/tsb/BMW/index-issue.html i told the service department about it on august 12th 2004. after much hand wringing and procrastination nothing was resolved. the high pitched whistling that i could hear with the a/c on what not my imagination and was heard by the service dept. the problem was that it could only be heard at higher vehicle speeds. there aren't very many places near mini yaletown service that you can do 50+ mph legally. (there are none within a few miles) this made it more difficult to diagnose.
now what was going on between august 12 2004 and february 1 2006 ? did mini yaletown report this problem to bmw? if so, is it not a legitimate problem 'til 5 people have the problem. or 50 or 500 or 5000 etc. i have now had to wait an extra 18 months with a substandard a/c system which i didn't like to use because of it.

new subject:
when directing heater to the feet you still get way too much hot air blowing through the top heater openings. (vents and defrosters) there should not be any. the best driving practice is to have warm feet and a comfortably cool head. i guess bmw/mini don't know that.

maybe this tsb will fix this problem also.

I have exactly the same problems. The only thing that has improved the hot face is to block off the small round heater exit on the top of the dash with tissue paper. I think it is there to blow hot air onto the side window to stop it misting up, but that is never a problem. I hope you can get further than I have with these problems, my feet would be thankfull for more heat.

HI..
Did this TSB fix the issue for you?

I also have a whistling noise at speed and after some head scratching and research found the TSB, which makes complete sense. The same whistling noise gets louder when I press the "recycle air" switch, so I'm hoping the foam on the flap does the trick.

Cheers, Geoff.

took my mini in to yaletown service on may 28, 2006 for several warranty problems including the whistling noise from the a/c at above 50 mph. turned out that was a poorly fitted gasket at the firewall where the the airflow components butted against it.
please look at my other posts below.
