DIY Electrical Issues

Hey People!

Right does anyone know how I can check why the driver’s side headlamp doesn’t adjust, basically passenger side works fine goes up and down using the dip adjustment but the drives side doesn’t! It’s facing the floor and a bit of a waste of light!! Does anyone have a circuit diagram? I want to try and see if there’s power going to the motors, to see if it’s a connection fault or motor fault. Has anyone ever had one fail and know how to change one?

Thanks Guys and Gals!

Kind Regards
Rob

Hi,

There could be a number of reasons for your headlight problem.

1) The controller for your headlight - depends when your car was built early cars had a seperate Light ECU, later cars sept 03 onwards the controller was moved into the Body Computer. One of the outputs could be faulty. Im not sure how you can check this because it is a stepper motor output. (Haynes manual info!!!!)

2) The headlight motor is jammed. When you switch the lights on i think it does a reference run to zero (fully aiming down) then adjusts to the correct set position. It would be worth getting someone to switch your lights on and feel the headlight or listen to to determine if it is trying to operate

Hey,

Cheers for the reply, sorry it took so long for me to reply. It’s really strange they have started working now!! I'm guessing it must be a loss connection somewhere!!

Thanks again mate

Mini electics can be a bit of a strange phenomena. When there has been a heavy rainfall, I switch off my headlights and sometimes my boot unlocks. Never happens when I try to demonstrate the fault at the dealership. funny eh!
