Central locking won't lock???

Hi all,

My Feb 02 Cooper will no longer lock with the toggle switch, remote or key in the lock.

Hope someone can help me with some more things to check? Or link me to another thread in case this has already been discussed?

Basically the toggle switch will unlock the doors, and the open button on the key will unlock the doors, but I can't get them to lock. No flash of the indicators when I use the lock button on the key or use the key in the lock.

The best I can do at the moment is to close the passenger door, press the latch bit that sticks up to mechanically lock the passenger door, then close the driver's door and lock using the key in the lock. But that still leaves the boot unlocked

Will try a computer reset (disconnect the battery) tonight, but I don't know if it will help???

All sorted now. Reset the computer by disconnecting / reconnecting the battery. Locked first time.

I have this exact same problem.

I'm such a noob. How do you disconnect/reconnect the battery? It isn't the main -/+ leads is it?

Thanks.

Depends on where it is.

Cooper - under the bonnet. Lift the weater strip that runs across the battery cover and unclip / lift off the battery cover (passenger side big black box). Use a spanner to loosen the -ve terminal and lift off.

Cooper S - it's in the boot under the carpet. Never seen one, so I'm assuming it's similar.

Always safer to take off the -ve in case your spanner hits any bodywork.

I can't believe this worked!!!! Thanks all.

Y'all saved me $1000 AUD. Got a missed call on my cell phone this afternoon from BMW...my guess is to pursuade me to go ahead with the repair (replace the BC1). I can't believe they were charging me that much.

Can anyone tell me how to get rid of that white powdery stuff?

AND

For future reference how exactly does one get the battery out (it's sooo heavy)

For non-S.

Thanks.

Bit different Issue / Drivers Side Door Won't Open

Hi,

I was hoping that someone would be able to help. I have read all the threads about the door and the locking mech's not working and how to repair it however I believe my situation is a bit different. When I try to use the key fob to open the door from a locked position, I see the latch move up and down however not enough to unlock the door. This is the first time I have experienced this issue on my 2004 mini. I get a similar reaction when trying to use the key in the door to open it. All other locks on the car are fine however I do notice that the key fob doesn't always respond the first time.

For the meantime, would it harm the door to use a slim jim to manually pull the lever arm up (inside the door) to open the door? I also thought that I didn't shut it all the way which could have a similar effect. While pushing on the door, I feel the door give a bit, it seems flush with the body.

Appreciate the help

~ S
