Water from headliner

I just bought a 2003 cooper and I love it, but after a heavy rain last night when I drove it this morning there was water coming out of the clock in the head liner??? HAs this happened to anyone else and is there a fix?
Thanks

happened to me the once after particularly heavy rain. I'm guessing you have a sunroof? If so, you might find that there is a blockage in some of the drain holes around the roof....? Open the sun roof up and have a look see....

if you dont have a sunroof then I think you have a more serious problem....

Not sure, probably somewhere below the front pillars, maybe in the engine bay front wing/fender area....

This is most probably due to a less than perfect seal between sunroof glass and the rubber water seal on the sunroof unit.

Water can and will find its way under the outer edges of the sunroof, and this is accounted for in the design, but water finding its way past the seal isnt accounted for.

The sunroof assembly has moulded drainage ducts which lead to 2 rubber drainage pipes (one each side) which are fitted to the rear of the sunroof assembly.

If the seal between the sunroof glass and the sunroof assembly water seal is compromised, water will find its way onto the rear side of the headliner and can puddle in the recess which the clock sits in, which is what is most likely happening in your case.

Give the seal a good clean (more importantly a good rough about to reinvigorate the rubber) and you may find it never happens again.

The only other way for your problem to occur would be if both drainage outlets have become overloaded or blocked and water is now overflowing from the sunroof assembly into the car. This is unlikely, although I will note that due to design the drainage pipes do go slightly up hill before they vent out through the car body, which is pretty much as daft as it sounds, but in reality the drainage system will only work on a correct car and cannot be expected to deal with lots of water.

If problems persist, I would advise talking to a dealer. I will add that this IS NOT usually a problem that requires replacement of major parts. If you have warranty then fine.

If you do not have warranty be careful.
