Loose Steering wheel

On the way home, i noticed my steering wheel no longer had the 'go karty' type of feel but feels very loose instead.

Did a quick search and noticed some others had this problem, but no postings on a fix.

Can anyone help?

The only suspension mods i have are a rear sway bar.

Thanks in advance

Can you feel any clunk when you steer or it's vague?

Seems like a steering column bro, $750 for it plus labour (around 2 hours) so it's worth a grand. Or..maybe certain parts in the steering mechanism just needs to be lubed up. Usually if it's under warranty, they will lube it up first to see if that sort it out but if not then they will replace it. I have 5 columns replaced in the two MINI's.

Fek me.. one huge problem after another.. well im taking up to Trivett tomorrow.

My warranty expires on Sunday (timing).. which reminds me i still have to look at the fine print about the warranty i bought.

Didnt notice any clunk.. feels more vague than anything else. Before, when u jerk the steering wheel left or right just slightly, the car responds. Where as now, you would have to turn it so that the Mini sign is vertical before any real response.

My steering is fine. However, i get the clunk every now and then when reversing out of the garage, but then it stops I think it'll be ok.

They usually foot the bill when the claim arise within the first month that the warranty expires as a gesture of goodwill.

Did this happen suddenly or just got worse progressively?

fair chance that's just the ABS self test.

sounds like the problem mentioned in the first post is definately the steering column, I've had one replaced and they're the exact symptoms I had.

More like something to do with the suspension if it's felt through the steering wheel. I am assuming backing out of the driveway involves going into a dip then back out again?

i'm not that much of a n00b!!! completely flat garage.

every time i feel the ABS self test, i've been going backwards in a straight line, so maybe i just don't know what it should feel like while turning
