Dash whistle, fixed as per PUMA but still there?

HI all,
I've had the common whistling on the passenger side of the dash above 50Mph (much worse when you switch on the recycle air button) looked at on my 2005 Cooper and repaired as per the BMW PUMA document on this issue - piece of foam added to the recycle air flap in order to increase to rigidity.

Unfortunately, this hasn't made any difference and it's not the pollen filter cover as this has also been checked.

Anyone have any ideas? It's one of those sounds that once you notice it you can't help but focus on it and pretty soon it becomes extremely irritating..

Cheers, Geoff.

HI all,
No-one have any idea on this issue?
If BMW have released a PUMA, then it's obviously a known, common problem.

Guess I'll have have to take it back to the dealer and explain that the symptoms persist.

Cheers, Geoff.

Irritating Noise

Don't know if I have the same problem as you, but I can relate to irritating noises. I have a strange whine in my new '06 MCSa (2100 miles) which comes on at about 30 mph, doesn't seem to get louder or increase in pitch, and is intermittent at times. It's not tire noise, because I've changed tires and the noise persists. I doubt it's the power train, because shifting into neutral at highway speeds doesn't get rid of it. It could be in the rolling chassis, or some kind of wind noise, but I'm guessing. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong with the car, which is frustrating because I may not be able to live with the noise. I'd hate to have to trade the car because of this, but I have a very low tolerance for squeaks, rattles, and strange noises in new cars. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Noise probem

Followup on my noise problem - as per a post elsewhere on these forums, I tried placing plastic electrical tape over the gap between the leading edge of the A-pillars and the windshield. To my surprise, the noise I was hearing is essentially gone. If this is truly the cause of the whine/drone I've been hearing, then I have to wonder about Mini's engineering vis-a-vis wind tunnel testing (if they even do that sort of thing). More to the point, I'm wondering about a permanent fix (on close inspection, the tape looks like a shade-tree repair).

yaletown mini service seems to have found and fixed my whistling problem. (see my earlier posts re this) it seems that it was a poorly fitted gasket against the firewall, and required removing virtually the entire heating cowling and venting inside the car.
