Passenger side Wheel "Clicking"

I have done a search for wheel clicking and nothing really suits my application.

My problem is:

Front passenger side wheel clicks when turning to the right.

You can hear it on roundabouts and sharp right turns. The wheel does not tick/click in a straight line nor on left turn bends. I can feel no vibration or anything untoward happening through the steering wheel.

I have had the wheel off and check for clearances and no problems were apparent.

It will be going into BMW very soon i just wanted to check if anyone has had the same problem.

Cheers

Andy

Interesting

I had the wheel off and checked everything. No suspension movement or rattles, no driveshaft movement and nothing rubbing.

Will call BMW now and get it checked.

Its weird because after messing about with the wheel it went away for a 30min journey but now its back?

I'll see what they say

Try putting some copper grease on the wheel nut threads before tightening then, maybe they are making the noise???

What new bits? I didn't buy any new bits...

Well, went to BMW on saturday and took the senior technican out to recreate the problem. In his exact words

"Wow, thats a new one on me. Never heard anything like that before."

So its in for the duration according to him, until they can find the problem.

Hopefully it is something silly like wheel nuts.

I wouldn't expect things to break on a 30k mile car!

With some investagative work from me and my dad the noise is linked to the amount of load on the front passenger wheel. Its a loud metalic clicking which is proportional to speed/load.

Andy, sounds like CV joint on the driveshaft (could be the left or the right!) If the boot is split it lets in water , the joint then deteriorates very quickly. Normally most noticable on full lock .- Test in an empty car park.

Cheers Roland.

Spoke to BMW yesterday and they are replacing the driveshaft and front hub. The noise seems to be linked to tempreture as it only happens when the car is at running tempreture.

I have heard the noise in carparks on full lock so i think you'll be right!!!
