Strange fault with Central locking while driving

Strange fault with Central locking while driving

I have a MCS and was driving to town today and for some reason my door automatically locked for no reason, ( i know about the safety feature but mine is not active) so i un locked them via the switch under the radio, then they locked again right after.

so i tried again and it did the same, so i carried on driving and left them locked, after 5 mins i tried again and they opened fine and stayued like it for a couple of mins then locked again.

this continued for the whole journey, the car locked fine after turning the engine off but it just seens strage to do this while driving.

has anyone else had this problem

Possible BCU gremlins I think.

If it continues to do it try a software reset or disconnect the battery for 5 mins (both achieve the same thing).

It was acceptable in the 80's

If you look in the FAQ section, Interior and In Car Entertainment and look at How to show RPM, Fuel Level, Speed and more on your Odometer Digital Display. There is an option there for software reset. This is not in the Haynes manual. In fact IMO the Haynes manual is not very good. There's a lot of missing details in the manual.

Sounds a lot like a known issue about earlier Minis. Maybe this is the case in your Mini, too.
Mine (MFG date 10/2001) had a similar problem: the doors locked and unlocked during driving. Sometimes faster sometimes slower. Very annoying!
The BCU was exchanged and covered against moisture. In fact they put a little Goretex hood over it and fix it with self-sealing waterproof tape. This little hood even has a BMW part code - so the issue is well known.
As I heard, this failure was rather well known at the time when I made the complaint to my dealer.
Just give it a try and maybe do it rather sooner than later: my dealer then congratulated me that the sunroof was not affected and also the window openers. On other cars they all of a sudden had a life of their own. Tended to happen during rain when the moisture reached the BCU

Good luck!

Wolfgang
