Question Car keeps locking itself, over & over again...HELP!

This is the strangest thing I have seen yet and I'm wondering if any of you have had or heard of this problem.

My MINI keeps locking itself over and over again at random times as well as making chirping noises (the kind when you try to lock your car when the door is open). Nothing seems to stop it, it does it at random, and sometimes it won't stop doing it.

I tried looking under the bonnet to see what the problem might be, & when I closed the bonnet, the car locked it self. I tried putting the windows down and keeping it unlocked to see if that might help. A few minutes later, I went out, the windows were up, and the doors locked and alarm armed.

Before this happened, I notice a few weird incidents with the locks, I unlocked both sides of the door and the door immediately locked itself back up. Another time, when I went to unlock my door and the alarm went off.

Have any of you heard or experienced such a thing happening with your MINI?

Could you have your key in your pocket? I've pressed the lock button by mistake that way.

Unhappy

Nope, it tries to lock itself before I'm even out the door. (It'll beep; saying cannot lock until you close to door, even though the car is trying to lock itself.

And when I try to unlock it with the actual key, the locking mechanism will fight with me to keep it locked, very strange.

It used to be random; the door will keep locking itself. Now it seems, every time I turn the car off after a motor outing and open the door, it will try to lock & when I close the door to lock it, it will continue to lock itself over and over, till the beeping noise starts. Then after awhile it will stop, then run it's course sporadically.

Sounds possessed! Be sure to come back and post what caused it after you take it to your dealer.

I have an old Peugeot 405 which behaves like this when the battery is almost flat, so you could have either a duff battery, or a poor connection to the battery. Try checking the battery terminals.

Well actually the battery died about 2 weeks ago, and all this seems to start (after) the battery was replaced by the dealer.

So I don't know if the battery change might have had something to do with it. I scheduled an appointment. Of course this has to happen before a holiday and I have to wait to see what the problem is. I'm just hoping the car itself doesn't kill the battery by trying to lock itself over and over.

Hmm, well Mini said they resetted my key and everything should be fine and it has been so far (knock on wood). Just seems a little weird that a key could be the problem the whole time.

I had a similar problem with my one last year, the windows would open on their own, the brake lights would stay on and the central locking would work without pressing the key. My dealer said there was a faulty batch of controllers, and mine was one of them. They fitted a new one under warranty and its been fine since.
