A/C Recharge / R134a Charge Specs

Just had my 3yr old S A/C recharged at Kwik Fit (45 versus 160 at Mini dealer). Print out tells me they removed 125g of R134a and 20ml PAG oil. They then recharged with 415g R134a and 30ml PAG oil. Print out also states no leak detected.

I cant believe it is normal for an A/C system to lose 2/3 of its R134a in 3 years (although Kwik fit tell me it is). I know R134a leaks more than the old R12 gas used to but is this kind of leakage normal?

Does anyone have access to the Mini specs on what the correct charge rate is (did Kwik fit overcharge it) and what is their spec for leakage (I am an auto engineer working with Ford and I know Ford have a leakage spec so Mini must have one)?

Thanks.

They always have the amount and type of refrigerant on a plate under the bonnet. That is how Kwik fit know how much to put back in.

I had another car with only about 85 g in it, and it had lost 300+grams in 2.5 years.

I really don't know what is normal but if you need topping up every 2 years, the leak rate is so low that it would be impossible to find a leak.

I think from memory its 425 on a Mini.
You will normally find that it will have been short filled when new (not as short as your amount)

I think all air con systems loose about ten percent per year.
