DIY "Popping" "Clinking" noise when my MCS cools down

Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if someone already posted a similar concern.. but here it is:

I've got a '06 MCS, and it really concerns me that when I stop my car, or when it cools down on standstill, there seem to be some metal "popping" noise.. you know that noise when you warp a piece of metal and "pop" it the other way? Or another way to put it.. sounds a bit like when rocks hit metal... that "clink" "doink" noise (man.. I suck at describing noises... )

Does anyone else have a similar issue, and should my car have this noise??? Any solutions on how to fix this if it is a problem?/

Thanks in advance

I know exactly what you're talking about. Every car does this, not just MINIs. I couldn't tell you what it is, but it's nothing to worry about.

It's just your engine and the exhaust cooling down, probably the exhaust as it gets red hot and can make pinging and cracking noises as it cools........nothing to worry about

You wan't to hear my motorbike! Does this for a good 15 min after a ride!!

It's just the metal in your exhaust cooling down. To give you an idea of the heat involved when you have been driving, especially motorway work, my JCW S's exhaust "grows" almost 25mm at the exhaust tips after a motorway run! It's level with the end of the aero bumper when hot and moves back when cold!

The JCW exhaust on my Cooper does this too. It's cool.
