Jack Up Point Missing!!??

Hey, I went and got some new tyres there last weekend and when the guy went to jack up the car he pointed out to me that i was missing the block at the jack point that you put the Jack against to raise the car. He had to push the jack into the space left to raise the car - does anybody know anything about this? Is the part i'm missing replaceable or broken off / How is it attached?? etc?? Thanks in advance!

Well the part is listed here RealOEM.COM * BMW R53 Cooper S VARIOUS BODY PARTS Part number 28

It appears that it may just clip in but, if the original part has snapped off, it may not be that simple.

I've only heard of one other person breaking these because they used it to jack the car up with a regular jack. They are not designed for this purpose and consequently the car twisted off the jack and ripped it off.

It was acceptable in the 80's

Yeah, they can rip off..... I'd suggest buying a proper trolley jack if you want to do regular work under the car though.... the jack that comes in the boot is very weak and not to be trusted imho.... having seen them twist out of shape in use....

Its a bit odd these jacking points. They are really only supposed to be used when jacking the car up with the stupid little BMW emergency jack - they are not supposed to be used with proper jacks or with car lifts that the garages use - they are supposed to be removed first..... otherwise, the weight of the car is supported by the rubber jack guides, not the jack strong points themselves

I had this happen to me last year.
Blown off by debris on road
It is a very tight fit and best way is to line it up with the hole, there is a sort of t-shaped rubber clip built into it. place a trolley jack under it and take up the slack, then just jack it up slowly and it will pop/slide into place. there is a tightening screw in the centre that you now tighten and that's it job done.
Fergal.

It's a MINI Clubman adventure!
