Wow, I can't believe Mini still haven't taken responsibility for this issue. My first Mini 51 Cooper had this happen 3 times. First time they replaced the looms as it was covered by extended warranty. Next time they charged me £200. The last time I got rid of the car. I just couldn't keep forking out £200 for something that was obviously a fault. I wish I'd have known about this thread at the time.

My Daughters just got a 03 Mini one and the Airbag light is on, Can anybody recommend a Mini Specialist in the Harrogate area who is reasonable. Just had it sorted at Strayside Garage only took 10mins Last edited by nsp24; Jul 9th, 2010 at 11:01 PM. Reason: update

Bought my 2002/52 in September 2009 privately, one previous owner, done about 7k miles on it since I bought it (65k miles on it now) and the airbag light came on a couple of days ago. It's at the dealers now, waiting to see what they come back with... If I decide to go down the buying a B200 re-set tool... I have seen one (second hand) which says it was used on a BMW E39 does anyone know if the fitting is the same to plug in to a Mini? Does the tool normally come with a range of fittings, or is there only one which works on all BMWs and Minis? Thanks in advance.

Sorry to hear there are still cars out there with this problem - I wonder how many people are driving around with their airbags disabled without really knowing? The B200 tool plugs into a socket above the pedals (in a UK car). You'll need to kneel down outside the car, stick your head in the footwell and probably use a torch to find the cover. It's awkward but you'll see it. My tool came with the rectangular plug and an adapter to a larger round plug I can't remember if the socket is round (20pin) or rectangular (a bit like a SCART socket on a TV with 16 pins). We've sold that car and moved on to a newer MCS cabrio (which isn't here) so I can't check. I paid £58 for it in November 2007 from these guys. http://www.autotec-direct.com/handhe...tools-52-c.asp They don't list it, but give them a ring and may be they can help you. The tool certainly worked - all we'd done was move the passenger seat a bit heavy handidly. Reseating the connector and resetting the light worked. reseating alone won't work as once that light is on, it's on until the computer is reset.

Thanks. I just got back from the dealer having paid £190.35 to them to tell me about a fault which it took me 2 minutes to find on here! No way I'm going to pay them to fix it though. Part that needs to be replaced is 61129118130 (Rep. cable, airbag) BMW quote £21+VAT for the part, £108+VAT for fitting! ![]() I'm going to go to a local independent not too far from me later if I get the chance, to see if he can re-set the light (the light is still on, so don't know if the dealership tried to re-set it or not). Hopefully someone will post exactly what needs to be done to the connector to solve this issue, and I can get it sorted without too much more expense. If anyone can confirm whether the diagnostic port under the footwell is the same as on BMW's would really appreciate it. Also, what if anything has happened with the petition, do we know if anyone at BMW/Mini has seen it? Last edited by Filbert; Jul 9th, 2010 at 03:14 PM.

In our case all I did was reseat the connector under the passenger seat and then tape it with insulating tape to make it less likely to slip. It only takes a tiny flex in the contact to trigger the light, then it stays on until reset. Once taped the light stayed off until we sold the car 18 months later. With the tool, resetting the light takes about 10 minutes the first time you do it. If that section of the loom is damaged then replacing it will take a decent mechanic a short amount of time as it's just run under the carpet into the bulkhead (IIRC), but you'll still need the reset tool. Obviously at main dealer rates that's still a lot of money - I pay my local independant about half what Mercedes want per hour to service my other car and the mechanics are all Mercedes trained and certified! IIRC the tool I bought was described as "BMW AIRBAG SRS FAULT CODE SCANNER/RESET TOOL" Similar compatible ones were "BMW AIRBAG RESET TOOL OBD2 & 20 PIN" on eBay at the time (the seller confirmed its suitability for a MINI) If you PM me an email address I can send you photos of the tool and connectors it has but you off checking the connector on the car first as I can't remember which connector it has - round or rectangular.
