I got the car back this afternoon. The computer showed the fault was with the passenger seat again. They checked that all the connections were tight, so as a precaution they replaced the wiring looms under the seat. Again this was done as goodwill due to the previous problems. However the service advisor says if it comes on again it'll need to be left in for a proper lenghty investigation. So iam not very hopefull that the problem is fixed. Yet again the car was cleaned inside and out.

airbag light My airbag light has come on. I know it is the drivers seat one because last year before i got the car it was reported by stratstone in mk but no action was taken. I brought a B200 reset tool and it turns it off for about 100 miles then its back on. I will not take my car to my local dealer Elms of Bedford after a very poor experience with them over my last cooper with gearbox problems they wanted £3000 to fit a new one and bmw were not interested even though it also has issues. Im going to repair the seat bag loom myself. Why are we not treated the same as US customers when the cars are built here?????????????? |

Fixed under warranty today - driver seat air bag wiring loom fault. I was told the "test" would be 60 quid - and then I would be quoted for replacement parts. As it happened new parts were covered on warranty so I didnt pay for anything. I was told that if I didnt want the work doing after the test I would be charged 60 quid.

Airbag light came on after moving the seat yesterday morning. In my optimism I had hoped that wiggling the wires would reconnect everything and extinguish the light. I'm really concerned that part or all of the pretensioner/airbag system could be deactivated for a temporary drop in connection as part of the regular operation of the car seats. I guess I'll need to book the car in with Cooper Norwich and see how we go ![]() Does anyone have a copy of the relevant Service Bulletin(s) as the site linked earlier doesn't even list MINI /BMW as an option?

Why pay a BMW garage £60 to reset the light when for the same amount you can buy this tool and reset it yourself and any time in the future? It also tells you where the fault occurred..... normally the under seat wiring connectors when the seat is moved triggers the light. Heres the link for where I bought my B200 airbag Reset tool on ebay (UK Vehicle Diagnostics) :-

Thanks - that eBay seller doesn't have one but there are other BMW all models airbag reset tools. I don't want to buy the wrong tool or get the wrong connector. Probably a dumb question - where is the diagnostic connector and what type is it?

I've just contacted BMW Mini customer services regarding an airbag light on our 2002 Mini Cooper. Despite making reference to the massive petition with this forum, the USA recall and how many owners of the same model have this problem, they will not offer any form of good will gesture to us. They have told me there are no outstanding faults/recalls relating to my vehicle, and as such are confident that there is no reason why BMW should offer a goodwill gesture on this vehicle. Anyone else had any other reply from Customer Services? Our local Garage (Trainer of Swansea) also wont admit to any common fault on these vehicles (despite telling us what parts are probably at fault and exactly how much it will cost to repair). Seems like one big joke to me. I've never known any other car to have a common fault like this being less than 5 years old and under 35k miles. Rediculous. Matt

Gave in and bought the B200 tool from here BMW AIRBAG SRS FAULT CODE SCANNER/RESET TOOL £58 delivered the next day. Plugged it in above the pedals (needed a torch) and it claimed a fault in the passenger side pretensioner. A quick wiggle of the wires under the seat and another try and the light is out and safety systems are operational again. It would be hard to see how it could be easier to use. Might tape the connections up to discourage any further disconnections. Crap design but at least I can fix it again.

Great forum guys. Recently bought a new 3 spoke steering wheel for my 03 Cooper. Removed the original 2 spoke to see if it would fit ok. Needless to say it did not. Put all back together and no problem, however the next day the warning light came on. Took it to bits and found the green wire connector at the back of the airbag had come adrift. Fitted it all back up and still the warning light is still on. Question is, now that the light is on will I have to get it reset even though the connections are ok? Local main dealer wants £60 to diagnose and correct

You can either pay the dealer to do it or buy the tool from eBay, the link I posted or anyone else advertising the B200 tool for about the same cost. You know why it's on but you won't be able to reset it any other way and in the mean time your drivers airbag won't deploy if you crash. If I were you I would buy the tool - you can always get most/all your money back if you ebay it after use - I'm keeping ours in case the light goes off when I move the seat again. It strikes me as incredibly stupid that the airbag system isn't scanned and reset each time the ignition is turned on but there is nothing we can do about that bad design.
