Door opening stop - limiter - crack noise

I have done a search and not found anything on the forum to help with this, but maybe i'm searching with the wrong keywords.

My problem is this.

When i open the drives side door there is a load cracking noise. I think it is something to do with the door opening limiter piece of metal. (i'm not sure of the correct name for this component. I have had a look on the OEM parts website, but can't find it).

I notice that the limiter is connected to the A piller by what appears to be a stud (which has a cross shape on the end of it) The piece of metal which that stud is supposed to hold in place appears to move behind the stud. This does not happen on my passenger side.

Should there be any relative motion between these parts on the car?
has anyone else had this part of the car come loose?

Got it fixed.

Took the car to Fawdingtons tonight. No need to book it in. Guy took it straight into the workshop. 3 mins later it was fixed. The bolt that holds the check starp onto the A pillar had come loose. All tightened now. No nasty noises.

I had the same thing on my 06 cooper convertible and had the door break replaced.

Mine is doing the same thing!!! Sounds like the door is going to fall off! Anyone know how difficult or expensive to fix?
