New car - aircon not very cold

I just received delivery of my new Mk I Cooper S (yes we are a bit behind in Australia).

The manual aircon, whilst cool, is not as effective as in most other cars I have owned. The air coming from the vents is cool rather than icy cold.

Today, the temperature was 30C, not particularly hot for a Perth summer, and I needed to put the aircon on 3 and recirculating to keep the temperature down. Even then it was not particularly cool. And this was after getting the car out of a cool garage!

After parking in the sun, I needed setting 4 and recirculating and still it was by no means cold inside.

Is this normal for a Mini? Or have I got a car with faulty aricon? It has occurred to me that after the two month journey from the UK. maybe the aircon needs regassing already?

It may very well need regassing and this would be the first thing that I would check.

I felt mine wasn't that cold, so had them check it while it was in for something else to be sorted and they said it was how it is...

The Aircon in the Scenic we have is ice cold !

Seem to remember the air con was icy cold on my S when new 3 years ago. I had it regassed last summer by BMW but it's not exactly like it used to be and regassing didn't really seem to improve it. I run the air con during every drive to keep everything lubricated but doesn't seem to have made much difference over time. The aircon on my Suzuki Swift is ice cold, oh well, just have to drive the Suzuki on hot days instead.

got to say the auto air con in my 02 MC is icy cold! I take it you bought the car second hand? Try and check out when it was last gassed and maybe get it re-done if it was a couple of years ago

Turn on the air con then open the bonnet and check the viewing glass (it's a small, round viewing hole in the top of the black cylinder, if you can see bubles then it needs regassing, else it's just working as per usual (ie not very powerful). Note that the air con will work significantly better when the engine is operating above idle and the car is moving.
