Airbag Query again..

When the airbag fault light is on are the airbags and pretensioners disabled until the fault is corrected and the light reset?
Cheers

Note the above quote from BMW :-
“In cases we have seen so far, the airbag and pretensioner would have operated normally"

(ie. It IS possible for the airbagsand pretensioners to work normally even if warning light is on.)

However this is not guaranteed !
My airbag light is on 02 Mini probably due like many others to a wiring connection underneath the front seats, seems to cost about 200 pounds for BMW to fix out of warranty even though they are fixing for free in USA, see main thread & sign the petition.

Thanks for that. My friends mini 2001 throws the light on every now and again.
When one of her (large) friends last got in the car it put the light on straight away.
Luckily I can code read it for her with my scanner and reset the light.
The code says fault with n/s side airbag. I have cleaned contacts under the seat and the light will stay out for several months.
I really think BMW should sort this fault out with modified parts / wiring free for all of you mini owners.
Good luck with the petition.

What kind of code reader do you have?
I haven't heard of one that will reset the MINI airbag system.

Thats useful to know as I have a contact in an independant garage who uses a mobile specialist in auto diagnostics (ECUs, ABS, airbag systems, etc.) who I am hoping can fix mine cheaper & more reliably than my local BMW dealer.
Is your scanner a 'Snap on MT2500' - EOBD/ OBD as they seem to list it as suitable for the Mini ?
