England Wonky Steering Wheel

Good evening everyone!

After my recent connection with a bollard (bollard at 1mph = new door, half the car resprayed, looks excellent now ) my steering wheel has been on the wonk!

I had the tracking done about an hour ago because i knew it was in need of it, its solved half the problem but the steering wheel is still wonky. The garage said come back tommorow when its all settled, and we'll give it another go to get it straight.

Can anyone suggest if it was something a little more serious? I'd rather spend the money and have it perfect.

Thanks in advance..

-David

Probably just needs re-aligning. The garage should make sure they do the alignment with the steering wheel straight. If it has had a prang then it might take them a bit longer but I think it is the garage that aligned it that would seem at fault here.

When I thought my car tracking needed doing, I asked bmw and they said it was a KDS system and would cost £250- naturally I thought it would be far cheaper to go to ATS or something.

They tracked my car, saying it was out a bit. - But the wheel was like 20 degrees off center, very annoying!! !

I took it upon myself to remove the airbag and steering wheel, and put it back in the right direction. Probably not advised, as this did disable my airbag system.

My local dealer sorted it out tho, saying that there was a fault with the airbags, thank's to my warranty!

Has had too many minis

Once the alignment gets knocked out, there is a possibility of the steering wheel being canted to one side or another. Many local garages won't activily mess with it because it involves the airbag (in the days of no airbags, it was easy to correct). So, you will have to make a stink to get them to do it but it can be done. Lastly, there is a small possibility that it won't line up correctly depending on the groove alignment. I was cut off in the Subaru and was forced to take a curb once. It popped the tire and knocked the car out of alignment. I had it repaired, but the garage could not get the wheel totally straight but you do have to look to see that it is off a little.
