I can't get into the car

Hi Guys,

I usually walk to work but this morning I thought I'd be lazy and drive in. So left the house 15 minutes later and went to get into the car. I pressed the unlock button on the key but nothing. So I tried the spare and again nothing.

I've noticed that the alarm light is flashing on the stalk so I presume it's not a battery issue. I called the MINI dealer this morning, asking for advice, and they told me to unlock the car manually and put the key in the ignition to stop the alarm. But they told me that when I come to lock it the alarm won't be activated so I didn't bother and just walked to work.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? I've got the car booked in next Friday for them to look at so don't want to use until then if I can't set the alarm.

Thanks,
Richard.

If you don't use the car very much and it's post July '04, then it could be the rechargeable batteries in the keyfobs have discharged. You need to recharge them by sticking them in the ignition once in a while!

Otherwise, you are parked in an area of strong radio interference. You could try getting as close to the car as possible (top middle of windscreen area).

Only real solution is as suggested, just open the car door with the key and stick it straight in the ignition to disable the alarm.
