Smile Half of heater display lights not working!

Hello,
Although I am quite accustomed to my constantly recurring air bag light, I was dissappointed lately to turn on the car to find that what ever lights are used by the left hand side heater dial, and half of the middle dial, has given up the ghost. They came back on the next time I turned on the car, but the following time, and everytime since, I have half of the three heater control dials in darkness. Admitedly, this is not the worse problem in the world, but I've my NCT coming up so I'd rather the lights were working. Does anyone know if these are easy to fix? I did look at the Haynes manual, but there is nothing about how to change these lights, and the wiring diagram doesn't indicate half of them are on a different fuse, not that it indicated much to me anyway! I also looked at the excellent FAQ & DIY pages here but didn't see one where this bit of console (just above the toggle switches) was taken off.

Any advice?!!
Will be back at dealers few days before NCT to get the air bag light reset [i]again[i] but they've been doing this for free for me, even though the car, an 03, is out of warranty and was 2nd hand when I bought it there over a year ago. (Only right I reckon as it's not my fault the light comes on!). As a result, I don't want to give them an excuse to fix the air bag light for free and charge a small fortune for the other problem.
All help appreciated!!!

They are LED's and not easy to replace. They need to be desoldered. I have seen one thread before with the exact problem you describe but don't think a resolution was ever posted. Try a search to see if you can dig it out.

I would suspect it is to do with the BCU as this control all the switch gear and internal lighting systems. try disconnecting the battery or doing a software reset to rectify the issue.

It was acceptable in the 80's
