DIY Engine Management Light comes on when Petrol Tank has circa 30 miles range?

Red petrol light came on yesterday, only did a few miles yesterday then drove last night a short journey and my Engine Management Light came on and stayed on. The car was not acting in an inordinary way, no stuttering etc... So I called Mini Emergency and they said to book it in to Mini...

So I've booked it in for tomorrow morning, just refuelled at lunch and the Orange Management light has now gone off!?

Suggests there is a problem with a sensor to do with the petrol tank?

Car is a 2004 Cooper S Convertible with 17k on the clock.

I got my car fixed on Friday - it was the oxygen sensor in the exhaust that was knackered...

And now look at the news...

I use tesco's petrol: BBC NEWS | UK | Petrol retailers say fuel is safe

It seems the problem was caused by Tesco's petrol!!

not sure if this helps, but heard today on bbc five live that sensors dont need replacing, just new tank of fuel and ecu reset, [not mini specific] also on air from ford guy who got a generic sensor for £30.00, RATHER THAN THE FORD part for about 180.00,
not suggesting diy approach, if anybody is outside dealer network and on 3rd party insurance, and only pay cash for fuel, and dont keep receipts, it looks like your on your own, so this would be a good plan b for you
