Buzzing sound coming from the Speedo

I don’t know if anyone else has had this but I couldn’t find anything about it.
Anyway I get a buzzing sort of noise which seems to be coming from the Speedo on my cooper and the funny thing is it only seems to do it between 50 - 70MPH below or above that the noise goes away.
Anyone got any ideas?

Hi! I'm not sure what is problem is but I've just experienced a similar problem!

I just got my cherished Apr 04 Mini Cooper last week, and today I change the head unit to a pioneer one. This evening I went out to the car, opened the door and as soon as I did a buzzing noise started coming from the speedo ! In addition to this the pointer was shaking up (by about 1cm each way) and down like crazy! When I shut the door it stopped!

I thought I might try and re-seat the pointer by driving it down the road, came back and now the problem has gone away completely(for the moment! ). I'm kind of worried I might have caused this when I was swapping over the head unit (no easy task!). It was also a damp night so maybe thats the cause??!

If anyone could help with what might of caused this then I would be delighted to hear from you. In the mean time I just hope it doesn't happen again!

Cheers

Dan

In your case MiniDJ, all of the dials reset themselves once in a while, commonly when there's been an electrical disturbance in the car. It's just forcing the pointer to the zero position to calibrate.

Haven't heard of that one but we've got speedos in stock if it annoys you enough that you need one.

Whenever I start mine to go anywhere the Rev counter does something like this... like the little speed arm can't keep up and jiggles up and down until it goes to idle...tis weird...

If the world didn't suck we'd all fall off!

I read somewhere if you leave the key in position two for more than 10 seconds it'll do a system reset, causing the buzzing and shaking, I've been able to replicate the "phenomenon" by doing this. it will also trip if I leave my radio on for a while after I turn off my car. seems to be perfectly normal.
