Wiper Motor Problem I have an 05 Mini and accidentally hit the Wiper lever while starting the car after work. The Wiper Blades were STUCK on the windshield with all the ICE and Snow. it was turned on maybe 1 Min while frozen. Well now that they free and clear from sitting in a warm garage where "Marvin" belongs" they all all thawed out but they don't work. I checked all the fuses and they are OK. What did I do? Can it be fixed without a long trek to the Dealer? I was hoping it was a Fuse, Whine....Sob...whimper... Anyone have a direction to point me to? please.....

Hi I've got a similar issue on my Mini One 2002 Front wipers randomly stopped working (at any speed) whilst the rear wipers and washer jets were working fine. Turned engine on and off (in the hope of resetting any electrics) but didn't work. Ten mins later the wipers came back on perfect, no weird noises/movement issues. Had the same thing repeat itself a day later. Has anyone got any ideas? The fact they came on again suggests the wiper motor is ok but any help is appreciated!

I have the exact same problem with my mini cooper 2001. i used the wipers all morning - fine. probably didn't switch them off with the lever, just turned the engine off. (maybe a mistake) Drove later and the back wiper and washers worked fine but front wipers wouldn't move on any setting. after 5 mins of switching engine on & off they finally came back on. accidentally stalled the car and wipers wouldn't work again, engine off & on didn't help this time. Next day, they work again! It was a particulary rainy day before - wondering if it's anything to do with the grills on the bonnet letting rain in?? if not maybe just loose connection in the switch? going to take to the garage will let you know what they say. appreciate advice from anyone who's had same prob cheers

I have the same problem at the moment. My cooper is 2001 and whilst driving on the motorway in heavy rain they just stopped working! (not a good situation). When the rain eased off, I turned switched the electrics off/on and they started again. Since then the issue has got worse to the point where they just don't work at all now. I have had 2 people look at the problem and its the actual motor itself is kaput and needs to be replaced, so I've put it in the garage to get this replaced. . Speaking to a guy from the RAC, its a common problem with that generation of mini cooper <apparently>...

My wife's wipers just stopped recently on her 2002 cooper (has been snowing here and very cold). After reading several threads I checked the fuses and relays without any luck. Today I checked the motor's earth and ran a new cable from one of the motor's mounting bolts to the -ve terminal of the battery - worked a treat! Definately worth a try, have read this on 5 or 6 forums but never thought I'd be that lucky but I was! Hope this helps someone cos I'm well chuffed.

| As with many members of the forum i had problem with front Wiper Motor not working. this appears to be a common problem with a simple solution. run a new earth wire from any of the 3 wiper motor mounting bolts (accessed by removing plastic air vent on bonnet). connect other end to any good earth point/bolt in engine bay. this worked perfect for me and is well worth a try before paying for expensive replacement. i will post photos if required. | Mini Wipers OK it's took me about 4 hours and i aint no mechanic, once you have all the bolts out push the linkage as far to the left as it will go and move the moving part to the top, remove the four bolts that hold the motor on to the linkage and the motor jiggles out to the right (it aint easy) wriggle in the new motor and refit the bolts, line up the linkage in the centre and Bosh its done. |
