Windscreen Trim Flapping About!!

Picked up my MCS tonight (54 plate but facelifted) - Happy Days!!

Got 50 miles up the M3 and heard nasty flapping noise, pulled over and found that the plastic trim at the top of the screen had come out of its houseing and was blowing around in the wind - great. Pushed it back in and carried on home, had to stop another three times to push it in again.

Ive read the other threads about wind noise as a result of badly fitted screens but nothing about the trim actually coming loose!!

I'll phone the dealer first thing and see what they say, but has anyone got any ideas/similar experience that could help me argue? Any ideas how long you have to leave the car before driving if they replace the whole screen?

Other than that the car is amazing, I can see what you are all banging on about now, best car i have ever driven, only problem is i cant drive above 50mph until its sorted. Pure Torture!

Great to see another hooked MINI owner!
Gutted thats happened to you though

It's quite a common problem & shouldn't be unheard of at your local dealer.
Normally, if you left the vehicle for a new windscreen, our service dept. would ask you to leave it until the next morning so the screen can bond & settle in the workshop so it isn't exposed to the elements.

Hope it gets sorted ASAP so you can enjoy the car to its full potential!

Dave

What he said^^^^^^

Its probably a replaced windscreen and the trim has not bonded correctly, just take it back and they will be able to glue it in correctly, had it happen to me before

Thanks for your help, thats great.

As I suspected then. Sounds pretty simple to solve, just gutted as i am going away to the coast for the weekend tomorrow and it would have been an ideal time to put it through its paces!

Sounds like that may be out of the question now though. Any idea of a short term fix - insulation tape accross the seal maybe???

I am a desperate man and will be gutted if i cant take it tomorrow!

(cant stop glancing out the window at it, only a few hours and its broken but i'm already smitten!)

yeah just tape it down good an proper, be careful that the tape you use doesn't leave any marks or stickiness on the paint work though

Masking tape won't leave marks I believe, but its crap for sticking stuff down long term.

Nice one, cheers.

I'll try to find something suitable in the morning, dont really want to use masking tape as it will look a bit gippo! Maybe electrical tape?

So glad i found this site, its a life saver!

blue 3M masking tape would be the thing to use in the states. It is a "no residue" easy peel tape - sure your local DYI centre will be able to set you up. Had it holding trim on my old Honda after a windwshield replacement on it.
