Weird Electrical Faults

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated here as the dealer is unable to find a fault with my Sept 06 MCS!!

Whilst driving the wipers work at random intervals when not switched on!

Flatt battery but FRONT sidelights are on and windows jolting up and down?
the clock disappears from the display and temperature reads -23.5

After jumpstart from MINI assist the mileage changed from 1723 to 1923 miles!
Then when switch engine off power steering still working and temperature then shows 23.5 !

At other times i have turned engine off and removed key and power steering still working and no steering lock comes on??????? KEYS ARE IN MY HAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dealer unable to fault and as problem is so intermittent they have never witnessed it happen!
Although 2 MINI assist techs have now!

The windows open at random times on their own and also when unlocking car it locks itself immediately??

Car has had a o/s/f door lock and still not cured

Just had a new Rear view mirror as central door lock control unit in there and still not cured!

A new BC1 has just been fitted and the issues are worse now!! there is no sign of water ingress anywhere!

Earth points have been checked and cleaned too.

MINI assist have just been to car as it has a dead battery again, the windows are down! the radio has come on by itself and the alarm sounding!
After about 10 Min's the sidelights came on when they are switched off and then the Xenon headlights started flashing about 5 times from side to side(first the left one and then the right one then the left etc!)
The poor MINI assist guy was dumbfounded!!

I have now been able to get video evidence of this happening and asked the dealer to send a tech out to witness this ' We haven't got anyone available but you can book it in in3 weeks if you like

Ive had to carry jump leads with me since November and have to beg passing motorists for a jump start when all goes wrong as MINI assist can take up to 3 hours to attend!

I'm now unable to attend the Guildford run as MINI assist have eventually agreed to trailer the car to the dealer in the morning instead of just jump starting me and sending me on my way!

Any ideas anyone?????? Please............................

I had the same sort of problem.. whenever i turn off my headlights my boot opens! I told the garage about it when it went in for some unrelated work and it didn't happen when they tested it Yours is obviously more serious but try and see if there is a certaing chain of events which lead to the electrics spaccing out. I realised after a few weeks that mine only happened after it rained

Ring any bells?

I was going to suggest BC1, but that's been done. So, dumbfounded.

Horrible problem though, and I'd have thought MINI would be more prepared to help than say you have to wait three weeks, this is a car apparently breaking down at random!

Christine thiink i'll name it that

The dealer basically said to me yesterday 'well on ya way then im sure we'll be hearing from you!!!!'

Then athe power steering worked by itself so i ran back into dealer to get a tech......who....strolled out and then it was ok!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i was SO angry

About 10 mins later i could'nt unlock the car so yet again in i ran and out they strolled
Yep you guessed it the bludy thing unlocked straight away!!

Got home parked it in garage then this evening it was dead battery time again and strange things happening with my (disco) headlights.

Car has been out of the rain for past week or so as well and no sighns of water ingress anywhere

That is so strange, I did not think even the BC1 had enough brains to operate the lights police style!

Are you in a position to leave the car with the service manager for a week and see if he likes to get stuck in the rain?

Im currently trying in vain to back it!!!

The supplying dealer are adamant there isnt anything wrong with the car!!!!!!!!!!!

I now have video evidence and the service manager said 'well.....i still havent witnessed it happening'

But 2 MINI assist techs have !!!!!!!!!! Isnt it a bit concerning that they cant take the word of the MINI assist men..............!

Isnt it concerning that they cant take mine too...............!

But they'll offer my over book price for the car and retail it................are they mad!!!

If i were the retailer id want it to go as far away as possible

It's under warranty, it's fault. I wouldn't be taking this if I were you. I'd be leaving the car with them and insisting they sort it out AND I'd be emailing customer services for help/advice/to give the dealer a kick up the backside. There must be records of the call outs you've had to make, plus your own word, plus the video.

There are plenty of records about it but dealer still wont budge

What car are interested in the outcome and are interested in doing a feature and,

WHICH legal team are getting involved and said under section 14 sale/suply of goods its unfit

Under section 48 if theyve had reasonable attempts to fix it (ie 3 times) and cant theyve now tried 5 times and tomorow will be 6th then im legally alowed to back it and get a refund/replacement car reflecting my spec and at NO EXTRA COST to myself

But, the dealer say until they actually witness it themselves they arent taking it back.............i called the service manager today to come and witness it and he said he could'nt ! SO, they arent interested at all!
ive been on fone to MINI cust services and thay havent really helped much apart from agree with the dealer that until dealer witnesses faults and can actually find a fault i have no reason to back it!

If its a BMW / Mini dealer
They should offer you a buy back if they cant fix the fault
Its standard BMW policy
If the dealer will not budge - Go to mini UK
there sort it

MINI UK are with the dealer on this.....

The dealer cant see or find the fault when car is there ! So, there is no rreason to back it!!!!!!

Not to mention that TWO MINI assist techs have witnessed it as well

Im REALLY disturbed by MINI's attitude to this and more so as we have had 4 cars from said dealer too and were looking to buy a 5th MINI too........................

this may not be much help but have you tried taking it to a different dealer?

I had major arguements with one dealer in Guildford when i had problems with my Mini One (ending up with me threatening to sue). Drove around, found another dealer (Coopers of Cobham) who not only sorted the other garage out for me they also sorted my car out. They have always been incredibly helpful with all little 'issues' when I changed to the Cooper S... including Good Will fixes when the warranty expired.

May be worth a go if you havent already - just make sure they aren't part of the same chain.

Ive got it all on video camera now so i told the service manager and he said' yeah but i still havent witnessed it'

The 'LIND' group own most of the dealers around here so its a nightmare
But, i have to stick with the supplying dealer if i aim to back the car

I have taken legal advise now but am unable to do much until monday again now
