OK, not sure what to do now.

Car is still at dealer but will need to be either driven home, or stuck on a trailer somewhere. 1320 Autos and GTT are the two options there really.

So I know that the head is going to need to be replaced but do I go for a stock one, that might be cheaper, or pack it off to Rolands for a Stage 1 head.

The trouble I have is if I send it to Roland's what happens if more damage is discovered after the head comes off?

Although, thinking as I type, it would seem the mapping has a problem so it might be worth going to Roland's so he can stick the GTT map on too.

Hmm, any ideas?

I'd send it to Roland.

Not only can you trust his work, but he won't rip you off like BMW might

I've sent Roland and 1320 Autos a PM to see what they can come up with.

Ultimately I want to go to GTT300T, if funds will allow, but this will probably be next year some time.

RG: out of interest, what map are you running?

GTT, GRS, Janspeed, JCW, OMP + various other bits - 232.6bhp, 191.2lbft on 1320's rolling road

It's a custom map by Courtney Turbo. They remapped the car for the previous owner and it's not been changed. I did notice though on the mapping receipt that different spark plugs should be used and when I took them out they were standard BMW ones. Not sure how that happened, as although it's been for a service since, it wasn't one that included a plug change. My guess is they were changed at a service after the remap but before my ownership.

My engine's already gone bang once I don't think my wallet could make it twice in quick succession.

Thanks to 1320 Auto's who came up trumps with a quote really quick. However I have decided to go with Roland.

He's arranged for my car to be picked up Monday morning and sent to GTT. They're going to give it a thorough investigation and then give me my options.

Once again thanks to both of you for your fast responses and help (especially Roland who is very busy with his little project at the mo' )

Well the Batmobile left at 08:00 this morning for a long journey to GTT. It was very sad to see it on the back of a flat bed

Please excuse the dodgy quality, I took the picture from my window.

Thumbs up Maps

Hmmm. Seems to me that nearly all of these engine blows are connected to bad mapping in one way or another. Amazing how many incorrect/unsuitable maps there are out there. People just after a quick buck, or cheap BHP hike in my opinion.

GTT certainly attends the the mechanics/engineering aspect first, applying a conservative and well formed map thereafter - the right way, and no lean mixes.

£850 to remove your head and look inside - WOW, nearly as funny as me paying the same amount for BMW to fit a £60 item and clean my carpets - STUNG on both ass cheeks!! grrrr. Now, where is that county court summons form.....

Cheers,
K.

Just seen this thread, really sorry to hear about the Batmobile RG

It will be interesting to hear from Dr. Roland on how surgery goes & I'm sure the final outcome will be a bit special.

Looking forward to regular updates

Not good at all! Although its very common for cylinders 1 & 2 to go first.....lets just hope its not too bad...

Reminds me! Better tidy my car out for its trip to see Roland tomorrow.

Hi,Detonation will trash any engine in seconds, the bias towards cylinder one and two (mostly No1 ) going? IMHO its the poor water flow through the block. It enters at cyl 4 and exits at.......?... cyl 4!
-Cyl1 doesnt hardly get a look in.
Only with our turbo conversion, which removes the SC completly can we utilize water entry (remove factory blanking plate) by No1 cylinder ... MUCH BETTER! The water then has to flow across all 4 cylinders equally and exit at the thermostat at No4 end of the head.
Best Regards Roland GTT

Thanks Roland,

Glad it's arrived all OK and I'm interested to see just how much damage has been caused.

Incidentally I'm on nights at the moment Roland so if you could make your calls to the landline after 14:30 that'd be great You can leave a voice mail on my mobile at any time as it'll be on silent.

Thanks for your time,

RG
