Best of luck on getting it fixed, I also avoid the dealers for things like this due to the ott labour charge.

Cheers Andy!

As I say, I am tempted to buy the recycled pump from 1320 Autos but the problem being, they dont come with any warranty. Plus, the year of the pump isnt identifyable so I could be buying a pump from another 2002 MINI so I could have exactly the same problems! All 1320 said they could give me was how many miles the pump had covered in the car it was rmeoved from; which is in actual fact irrelevant

If its a known problem with pumps of a particular year then I can understand where your coming from but if its simply from another car it could fail after 5 miles or 50,000 miles and at £50 I'd take that risk either way over £440, you could get one that fails after 2000 miles and then get another one that lasts for the rest of the time you keep the car, you'd still have paid out alot less than £440.
Or you could just drive without the pump and save on gym subscriptions

Yep, I know £440 is alot of money but I know that my steering isn't suddenly going to give up assistance on me at any random moment (big roundabout on a busy dual carriage way)!

Guess dinner at The Ivy, spot lights and ipod addapter will have to wait till I save up a little more money in my piggy bank.

I think for my safety, my passengers safety and my peace of mind-it's money well spent! (And you get a 2 year warranty)!

Totally understand where your coming from, just thinking about cost for Mr Burns, just if money is really tight Id go for the £50 option

Cheers Andy I think this will definitely be the way to go now. Take a bit of a risk and hope the pump is all well and good! I may ask 1320 though, if they could just wait untill another pump comes in, and when they get it try and find out there and then what year of MINI it is off. This might not be possible but worth asking them I suppose!

Soon as I get £50 (..yes... money is that tight ) I will probably get one. So far iv been lucky, its only gone at low speeds. Since I have made sure not to steer unless the car is moving it hasnt cut out!

Dan

Thanks Laura I hope so too as I do 600 miles every week . 99% motorway miles though so the pump is only running at a very low rate at those speeds, and not much steering to be done either
