Power Steering Squeky sound

Hi

Just got my Mini today, its a 02 Cooper and Im a bit concerned about a noise the Power Steering makes.. Whenever the car is running theres a relatively loud noise. I do believe it got something to do with the power steering since it changes when I turn the steering wheel.

Is it common that it makes this sound, if not, do anyone of you know what can be causing this..

I do have a 1 year warranty

Hi,
This is normal , especially on early models - mine whines like mad! If you do a forum search in titles only for 'steering whine' you'll find a load of threads about it.

Thank you guys!

I must admitt a for a second thought the thing was broken or something..
But when I just walked out of the parking house I heard the same noise..Turned out it was another Mini, the owner said the same thing you do.

Again thank you all, problem solved

While were on the subject - I recently had the pipe for my power steering changed for a new one by bmw and i've noticed that the whine has become louder for some reason , especially when the car is stationary - any ideas as to why? Thanks

Hi,

I also have same steering whine noise in my mc2002 purchased 1 year ago. At bmw dealer, service people told me it was normal & didn't have to worry abou it. I notice that noise is stronger when you turn the steering wheel without moving the car (neutral position).
