Rear Wiper Spray Not Working

Filled up the trough under the bonnet, it makes the familiar whirring sound, but no water is being sprayed onto the rear windscreen. The front sprayers work okay. Any ideas as to what I can do to rectify?

Thanks all.

99.9% sure it'll be a blocked nozzle!

Just remove it and give it a clean or just buy a new one only a few quid!

I can remove the rear nozzle? The one embedded in the wiper?

Yep! Had to do that myself. I checked out the whole line from end to end, including removing the rear wiper motor and interior trim, just to be embarrassed that it was just a blocked nozzle.

Unblocked it and never a problem again. Mind you - I can't remember how I got it off! (Just in case that was going to be your next question).

pull! haha.

OK serious instruction follows...
Looking at the rear wiper.. at it's base (centre, bottom of windscreen) where it attaches to the car you will see it is in 2 pieces, and it hinges. pull from the base end and the hinge will pop open (not end of wiper end!!!, that is a simple spring mechanism.. we are talking the other end.. the end you don't normally pull! :P) only a light tug is required. Once the hinge opens this newly swinging bit of plastic will simply pop off totally with a little tug. Grab a new one from MINI... No more than a very reasonable £6 and you should be good to go

If you do fancy trying to unblock it yourself then a pin is the best... but you may find it simply pushes whatever is there further in!

Good luck

Was your car under warranty at the time? If so, you might be able to claim that back. I had a similar problem with mine and the dealership unblocked it as a warranty fix - they told me this was a recognised problem on the Mini.

All the best,
Andrew.

I had this on mine and there were several reasons in my case

1. Blocked plastic nozzle - Cleared that myself and still did not work.
2. Rusted metal section of nozzle undeer the plastic covers - Changed and still did not work
3. BMW replaced the motor pump for the rear - Fixed (However the other 2 had probably contributed to the pump giving out )

Just take it off and ask your local friendly garage to give it a blast with their airline. Only a REALLY miserable bunch will say 'no'.

i guesing that the road you travel on are dirty and muddy , if you open the tail gate and remove the boot card on the tail gate don`t worry about any strange nosies (snapping sounds) they won`t break if u are careful when removed look for the washer pipe unplug from the washer and blow down pipe and washer ,if u can do it with a air blower air compressure if makes litle work .

The same thing happened to mine last year. I took it off (no tools required), blew it through with the airline in work, and it's been fine ever since.

I know how you feel, Ami. My Mini is three and a half years' old now (warranty is 3 years) and I just had to have the rubber seal around the front windscreen replaced by my Mini dealer. The part was £9 and they charged over £100 to do it, because it was a "known tricky problem!"

I am delighted that I was able to sort this problem out myself!
