Brake Wer Indicator Light After 16k Miles

Hi All,

i need some advive. The other night i was driving home and my brake pad wear indictor light has come on, is this normal after just 16k miles?

It seems a bit early to me.!!

i have booked my car in with Bmw on monday, to check it out, but im not sure whether this is covered by warranty if anything needs to be replaced. Does anyone know???

Mine first came on at 102k! (true)

Seriously, if you are in London you'll be using more pedal so it may not be unreasonable. Does the car get left a lot without driving, so that the discs rust?

Typically brakes are a wear and tear item thus not covered under warranty. If your pads are worn, you will have to pay at which point it is better to go with after market as the OEM pads are horrible.

Hawk and EBC seem to be some of the better pads. Your environment and driving style could have lead to the quick wear and BWM pads are a bit "soft".

Here are some at MINI Mania..

I have heard that the Green Stuff pads are pretty nice but as you can see you do have a choice and they will be less than OEM. You could also talk to Roland at GTT to see what he might recommend as well.

Probably not but why would you want to spend that much money on having them do it anyway? Find a local garage that can do this. Also, if you have a full JCW, you have big brakes in the front. Remember this when or if you order pads.

I recommend Akebono ceramic pads, they don't dust and are long lasting.

I buy them at BAP/Geon in the USA. I don't know the UK suppliers.
