DIY No Brakes

Well brake light at least...

I just recently bought a 02 Mini cooper and the only problem the mechanic found was that the rear right brake light doesn't work (the parkers do just not the brakes).

I thought no problem just replace the bulb and we are away...

After removing the whole light board much to my dismay the filament appears fine but not only that the bulb is soldered on to the board.

Does anyone know of any general problems that could cause this to happen ie fuse or wire related as i do own a soldering iron and can heat things with it but that is about it im afraid...

My Job forces me to drive... My Mini forces me to take the long way...

I don't have my manual here, but it seems unlikely that brake light bulbs would be soldered in, I have never seen that in 40 years and I've had Lotus's! Are you sure it's the right rear brake lights you are mentioning?

HI,

Habe you got the Rear White light set?
If so you will need to go to the dealer for a bulb set.

Yes i do have the white light sets, so even though the filament doesn't apear to be broken i need a new light board...

Unfortunately I think the whole light board will need replacing, or you could de solder the bulb that isn't working and buy someSilver tech type bulbs from shop and replace?

Or buy this, I know you are in Oz, but may be cheaper than dealers?...

Yes... Go and get a bulb carrier etc from the dealer... In the UK the carriers are approx £4.00 inc VAT... A friend of mine had the same issue with bulbs being soldered in and we picked up some bulb carriers yesterday... (She had the clear rears too)
