HELP - roof graphic problem

Hi

My 3 year old roof silver UJ roof graphic has deteriorated badly (all mottled). I took it to garage to get it replaced under warranty and they have initially rejected it saying that it is just standard deterioration due to the weather and the roof graphic should have been waxed regularly to protect it.

There are a number of problems:

- firstly I always thought wax was bad for vinyls so deliberately avoided waxing (also not advised to do so when bought)
- the roof graphic was supplied by the dealer but is not a BMW one even though I had asked for it to be several times (so I can't escalate to BMW).
- when I saw the graphic and that it was not BMW I was told by the salesman that it was a better vinyl - he said BMWs only lasted 5 years but this vinyl was 10 year vinyl (as I was expecting to keep the car 5 years and it looked good I kept it).

Where do I stand on this as I have asked for this to be escalated to a manager based on the fact that a) I was misled when sold it and b) if I had been told to wax it I would have (as the car is religiously looked after every weekend)

Any advice welcome - Thanks in advance

Hmm, not sure.

The Silver always seems to be one of the worst, ive read on here before of people having problems with marked Silver Viper Stripes or Silver Bonnet stripes. I had my Silver Vipers for a year on my old MINI and they never marked at all (they had also been polished with the car), but i saw a 54 plate car at my dealer with them and they were marked really badly

I always polish my Union Jack and Bonnet Stripes when i polish the car.

If it had been a MINI one, i still doubt at 3 years old they would have done anything anyway, i may be wrong and im not sure what the 'warrenty' is on their graphics.

Surprise they haven't told you that the car has a 3 year warranty, and accessories only have a two year warranty, as thats an accessory I'd not expect you to get anywhere with it.

Hi Rakey,

I was not aware of this (they certainly didn't tell me that when I bought it as I would have took it back last year as it had the problem then).

Do you know where this is specified?

Thanks

probably somewhere in teh warranty documents, or the accessory brochure, it applies to even things like JCW dealer fitted conversions and has caught many a MINI owner out in the past

I will see what they say then. I am sure I had found someone on another thread that had got it replaced at nearly 3 years guess I was wrong. I know if I had known I could have had it looked at when I got the brake fluid done. Having said that I probably would have still had the issues above as well!

Thanks to everyone for the quick responses. spf.

Yes found the other thread TonyM (Stonehouse in Gloucester), got his zip replaced at 2.5 years and the dealer had already replaced a UJ for someone else for the same problem. I will keep my fingers crossed.

Sorted!

Best that I can hope for really if the 2 year warranty is correct. Garage have agreed to replace the graphic for £50 fitted.

thanks for everyone's help / comments.
