Rough Cooper

Having been for a ride recently in my boss' fiancee's 55 plate Cooper and my workplace's 51 plate One I've noticed that they're both noticeably smoother in both acceleration and engine note than my 52 plate Cooper. Both of the other cars feel much nicer to drive than mine and it's got me slightly worried.

Ride quality isn't the issue - 55 plate Cooper has SS+ and 17" wheels with run flats whereas both the One and my Cooper have 15" wheels with non-run flats. I wondered after experiencing the 55 plate Cooper whether the facelift had something to do with it, but the One is even older than my Cooper and also feels better in terms of the acceleration and engine note.

My car was serviced and MOTed back in March without any issues, and this appears to be something I've noticed only very recently. I've checked the oil level and tyre pressures and they're at the correct levels.

Does anyone have any ideas? My car feels quite rough in comparison and I don't want to be causing long-term damage by ignoring it.

I forgot to say that my Cooper has done 48,000 miles, the One has done roughly 36,000 miles and the 55 plate Cooper has done roughly 25,000 miles.

What exactly do you mean by "rough" Kev? Does your Cooper tick over smoothly or are the revs jumping around?

Have you kept up with the servicing?

And this is more out of curiosity, as it wouldnt actually make that much differece; but what fuel are you using in comparison to the other models?

I think the post facelift 55 plate will feel different for sure. The Getrag gearbox - AFAIK - has different ratios to the Midland box in your Cooper.

I mean it doesn't feel as smooth pulling away and accelarating as the other two. The engine note is somewhat throatier and almost feels laboured. It ticks over smoothly though and there is no actual performance loss which leads me to think I'm worried about nothing.

Yes I have kept up with the servicing. Also like I said in my previous posts it was last serviced in March.

Fuel - I'm running Shell V-Power which I've run consistently for the past 6 months bar a fill-up at Morrisons on the Dales run and a fill-up on the way home from Buttons' London Return Weekend. The other two are using standard unleaded.

The problem seems to have disappeared now. My MINI is back to feeling normal again.
