United-Kingdom Does anyone know what this noise could be?

Hi.
I have a 2002 MCS and over the past week a noise has started from the drivers side wheel.

It does not happen all the time, just every now and again. It sounds like a metal rubbing against my discs.

Do you think this could be a sign of my brake pads needing a change?

Chris

I have a similar issue, but with the passenger front wheel. It is intermittant, sometimes getting worse on cornering.
I took it to the dealer who investigated and found nothing that they could see was causing it.
They replaced a worn part in the suspension under warrenty (track rod end ?) but said it wouldn't cure the problem - it didn't.
The other thing they noted was that it had a not quite round tyre ! When pressed on this they said it would not be a warrenty claim unlessI paid for a new tyre and they then sent the 'not round' one to Pirelli for a technical check. and only would pay out if Pirelli agreed the tyre was faulty.
Pointing out that the car was less than one month old from mini cherished (40000 miles) and they just said 'take it up with the dealer you bought the car from'.
The only reason I haven't is that I don't want runflats on the car.

So I would be interseted to see if anyone could suggest a cause and solution for this noise.

By the way hello I'm new !

That rules that out then, could be a stuck caliper in saying that could be worn pads as my mcs is a 2002 and didn't have wear sensors, wheel bearing ?? does the noise increase with speed.

Most likely happens under acceleration or when your starting off? sounds like a spanner tapping your disk?

Answer: Wheel baring!

I found the answer - needed new back brake pads.

Thanks
